They're all organized and everything! First the house, then the fluffy creatures, and then me. Click if you want to see them a little bigger.

The front room fireplace.

Another view of the front room. Note that desk chair. I recovered it all by myself, with the valuable assistance of a staple gun and about a hundred staples.

Note the bent curtain rod. One of the cats' favorite games is to sit on the back of the sofa and try and intimidate the birds in the pecan tree outside the window. It doesn't ever actually work, I don't think, but sometimes the cats get claws (and other bits) stuck in the curtains.

One day I'll replace that curtain rod. Maybe.

The solid armchair is Leory's favorite place to sleep and chew on illicit objects. Also, he likes to stand in it with his paws on the back, the better to bark at people on the front porch. I can tell when someone's been knocking on my door by the fact that the chairs and table are all pushed against that far window with the phenomenal force of his outraged barking.

The reds aren't quite this dark in real life, by the way.
living room living room
The fireplace. I really just took this picture because I'm so proud of the way I managed to get the pictures on the left to align.
dining room dining room
The dining room, books in place and Christmas tree up for the first time in I can't remember how many years. (I figure it will go in here whenever I can manage to put it up; that way it can be closed up behind French doors where pets cannot get to it, but it can still be seen.) Fake fall centerpiece courtesy of my mother.
dining room dining room
The silly fireplace, decorated for Christmas.
kitchen kitchen
I haven't hung the pictures yet -- they're still sitting next to the microwave. Also, I haven't yet managed to get the empty flowerpots (this year's mostly-failed herb garden) out of the windowsills. But I still like my kitchen.
guest room guest room
This room hasn't changed too much since I first unpacked it. The pictures I'm going to frame and hang are sitting on the dressing table, but I haven't got around to it yet. (They're prints of antique drawings of constellations.)
guest room guest room
I just took a picture of this corner to show you the Platonic Ideal lamp in context.
Platonic Ideal Lamp Platonic Ideal Lamp
The lampshade was a housewarming gift from coco-palmolive -- we saw it at IKEA and both knew immediately that it must be mine. But it was just a shade, and then I spent months trying to find the perfect lamp for it. Which I finally did, just a few weeks ago.

I'm keeping it in the guest room, because I suspect the cats would be a little too enamored of the dangling crystals (so shiny and clinky!), and so wheneer I need a lamp fix, I have to go into my guest room for viewings. I do this frequently.
Platonic Ideal Lamp Platonic Ideal Lamp
I mean, look at the shadow it casts. How could anyone resist this lamp???
bedroom bedroom
My messy bedroom. This is pretty much the most made my bed ever gets -- the other pillows have a permanent place in the corner.
Interview outfit Interview outfit
You can't really see the top, but it's one of those crossover ones. The skirt is ankle-length linen wraparound.
sock drawer sock drawer
Believe it or not, there are actually some socks in this drawer that aren't striped or otherwise patterned in any way.
my dada socks my dada socks
The socks I wrote about recently. What do you think these socks are trying to say? I've been trying to solve this mystery for months.
bathroom bathroom
The infamous pink bathroom. It is, you will note, still pink.
random leaf random leaf
This was just a leaf I saw in my yard. It's suspended in midair from one of my many spiderwebs. (If you look closely, you can see the web.)
Flannery Flannery
Poor old lady, with her white muzzle and paws, and her visible spine. She's lying on the particularly scuffy and ugly floor by the front door.
Rachel and Olive Rachel and Olive
Olive's the calico and Rachel's the grey one. Also the shy one -- I mean, they're both shy, but Rachel, well, let's put it this way: my father, in whose house she spent nearly a year, has hardly ever seen her.

Olive's fur is incredibly soft. It feels like rabbit fur.
Leory Leory
Generally, this is how Leory appears to me. Note also Olive's rear end; cat rear ends are also a common sight in our house.
Raleigh Raleigh
My parents' firstborn Greyhound. Standing, he looks astonishingly like a deer. He's the best-behaved dog I've ever seen.
Titus Titus
This was the dog who was to have been mine before my mother became a vile indian giver. He's high-strung, to say the least, afraid of cabinet doors and stairs and just about anything. He loves the sound of my parents' ice dispenser, though, because it means a treat for him. He's an ice addict.
Sabrina Sabrina
My brother and S-I-L's boxer, in the skin-tight tee she wore for the baby shower.

I love this dog, who is charming and cheerful and ugly-cute in the way that boxers are, but she is scared to death of me. My brother's best friend says this is because she senses that I am evil, and who am I to argue with that? But it still makes me sad. Most dogs like me, you know.
me! with hair! me! with hair!
I don't know whether it's the fault of the century-old mirror or the lighting in the bathroom (or, you know, me), but I never could get a clear picture -- they all came out blurry. Anyway, this is me, and this is my hair.
me! with hat! me! with hat!
So here's the story: when I was little, this was my mother's hat. I cannot tell you how much I loved this hat. I mean, I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, but also, my mother looked absolutely gorgeous in it anyway -- more gorgeous than usual, and my mother is a lovely woman. I used to sneak into her room and put it on and try and imagine the day when I would grow up and look equally beautiful in it.

I'm grown up now, and I don't look nearly as nice in it. But I still love it. My mother gave it to me this year for Christmas.

Ooh, so nice to see you! :-)

It looks like you're surrounded with beauty. That's wonderful.

*waves like shameless camwhore*

I am almost (almost, mind) speechless with adoration for my house and my life right now. Do I look happy? Because I am. *beams*
