They're all organized and everything! First the house, then the fluffy creatures, and then me. Click if you want to see them a little bigger.

reception room reception room
The front room fireplace.
reception room reception room
Another view of the front room. Note that desk chair. I recovered it all by myself, with the valuable assistance of a staple gun and about a hundred staples.
living room living room
Note the bent curtain rod. One of the cats' favorite games is to sit on the back of the sofa and try and intimidate the birds in the pecan tree outside the window. It doesn't ever actually work, I don't think, but sometimes the cats get claws (and other bits) stuck in the curtains.

One day I'll replace that curtain rod. Maybe.

The solid armchair is Leory's favorite place to sleep and chew on illicit objects. Also, he likes to stand in it with his paws on the back, the better to bark at people on the front porch. I can tell when someone's been knocking on my door by the fact that the chairs and table are all pushed against that far window with the phenomenal force of his outraged barking.

The reds aren't quite this dark in real life, by the way.
living room living room
The fireplace. I really just took this picture because I'm so proud of the way I managed to get the pictures on the left to align.
dining room dining room
The dining room, books in place and Christmas tree up for the first time in I can't remember how many years. (I figure it will go in here whenever I can manage to put it up; that way it can be closed up behind French doors where pets cannot get to it, but it can still be seen.) Fake fall centerpiece courtesy of my mother.
dining room dining room
The silly fireplace, decorated for Christmas.
kitchen kitchen
I haven't hung the pictures yet -- they're still sitting next to the microwave. Also, I haven't yet managed to get the empty flowerpots (this year's mostly-failed herb garden) out of the windowsills. But I still like my kitchen.
guest room guest room
This room hasn't changed too much since I first unpacked it. The pictures I'm going to frame and hang are sitting on the dressing table, but I haven't got around to it yet. (They're prints of antique drawings of constellations.)
guest room guest room
I just took a picture of this corner to show you the Platonic Ideal lamp in context.
Platonic Ideal Lamp Platonic Ideal Lamp
The lampshade was a housewarming gift from coco-palmolive -- we saw it at IKEA and both knew immediately that it must be mine. But it was just a shade, and then I spent months trying to find the perfect lamp for it. Which I finally did, just a few weeks ago.

I'm keeping it in the guest room, because I suspect the cats would be a little too enamored of the dangling crystals (so shiny and clinky!), and so wheneer I need a lamp fix, I have to go into my guest room for viewings. I do this frequently.
Platonic Ideal Lamp Platonic Ideal Lamp
I mean, look at the shadow it casts. How could anyone resist this lamp???
bedroom bedroom
My messy bedroom. This is pretty much the most made my bed ever gets -- the other pillows have a permanent place in the corner.
Interview outfit Interview outfit
You can't really see the top, but it's one of those crossover ones. The skirt is ankle-length linen wraparound.
sock drawer sock drawer
Believe it or not, there are actually some socks in this drawer that aren't striped or otherwise patterned in any way.
my dada socks my dada socks
The socks I wrote about recently. What do you think these socks are trying to say? I've been trying to solve this mystery for months.
bathroom bathroom
The infamous pink bathroom. It is, you will note, still pink.
random leaf random leaf
This was just a leaf I saw in my yard. It's suspended in midair from one of my many spiderwebs. (If you look closely, you can see the web.)
Flannery Flannery
Poor old lady, with her white muzzle and paws, and her visible spine. She's lying on the particularly scuffy and ugly floor by the front door.
Rachel and Olive Rachel and Olive
Olive's the calico and Rachel's the grey one. Also the shy one -- I mean, they're both shy, but Rachel, well, let's put it this way: my father, in whose house she spent nearly a year, has hardly ever seen her.

Olive's fur is incredibly soft. It feels like rabbit fur.
Leory Leory
Generally, this is how Leory appears to me. Note also Olive's rear end; cat rear ends are also a common sight in our house.
Raleigh Raleigh
My parents' firstborn Greyhound. Standing, he looks astonishingly like a deer. He's the best-behaved dog I've ever seen.
Titus Titus
This was the dog who was to have been mine before my mother became a vile indian giver. He's high-strung, to say the least, afraid of cabinet doors and stairs and just about anything. He loves the sound of my parents' ice dispenser, though, because it means a treat for him. He's an ice addict.
Sabrina Sabrina
My brother and S-I-L's boxer, in the skin-tight tee she wore for the baby shower.

I love this dog, who is charming and cheerful and ugly-cute in the way that boxers are, but she is scared to death of me. My brother's best friend says this is because she senses that I am evil, and who am I to argue with that? But it still makes me sad. Most dogs like me, you know.
me! with hair! me! with hair!
I don't know whether it's the fault of the century-old mirror or the lighting in the bathroom (or, you know, me), but I never could get a clear picture -- they all came out blurry. Anyway, this is me, and this is my hair.
me! with hat! me! with hat!
So here's the story: when I was little, this was my mother's hat. I cannot tell you how much I loved this hat. I mean, I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, but also, my mother looked absolutely gorgeous in it anyway -- more gorgeous than usual, and my mother is a lovely woman. I used to sneak into her room and put it on and try and imagine the day when I would grow up and look equally beautiful in it.

I'm grown up now, and I don't look nearly as nice in it. But I still love it. My mother gave it to me this year for Christmas.

I WANT YOUR HOUSE. For real. It is like I want my house to be when I grow up, although I will never be able to afford a house. ;_; But, yes, I'll just take yours. ;)

The hat is very cute too! I cannot pull off hats like that, but I think you look lovely in it. And, you know, lovely generally!

Well, you can't have mine, I'm afraid, because it is taken. But you are welcome to visit anytime! And in the meantime, I didn't think I'd ever be able to buy a house either, but I was, and probably one day you will have a house you loe as much as I love mine.

I'm afraid I can't usually pull off hats like this, either. But for this one, I'm willing to at least try.

Second the fabulous house.

You should post this on saucy_dwellings. It is so gorgeous. If you should ever sell it, I will make a bid.

I didn't know saucy_dwellings even existed! I feel sort of intimidated, because most of the places I skimmed through were much less haphazard than mine is. But I will think about it! And in the meantime, if I ever decide to put it on the market, you'll be the first to know. :D

OMFG YOUR HAIR IS SO LONG!

I went to the house! I took pictures! It is not as nice as yours but if you came to visit you could fix that! My mother is talking about helping me go ahead and buy it because of various complications with the previous buyers that have made the owner gunshy of long engagements! I am delirious with joy so much so that I must spam your comments!

OMFG I JUST SENT YOU AN EMAIL IT IS SO FABULOUS I CAN HARDLY STAND IT AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT ONE MORE TIME. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you decide to go for it, because it looks like you and the puppy boy could be so happy in that house.

DO NOT FORGET TO KEEP ME POSTED!

I am ridiculously pleased at that comparison. I look like Corin Tucker! :D:D:D:D:D:D I think Corin Tucker would probably not use emoticons, but I am too pleased to care about this.

You've really created a haven for yourself. Everything's gorgeous: the home, your cats, your puppies, you, the hat, even the leaf and the spiderweb - I'm so happy for you! You must be so proud of all that you've done, and deservedly so!

Do you know, I am proud, insofar as I can claim credit. My life right now looks, at least, exactly the way I always wanted it to look, and it wasn't till I posted this comment that I realized that.

Your hair is super long! And that hat is gorgeous on you. I love your house so much, and all its furry inhabitants, and I love that lamp and I want to steal Raleigh, who is drop dead gorgeous. (We have a Raleigh in our family, too; he's my aunt's rescued Springer Spaniel.)

Brooke was thrilled to see your sock drawer, and has picked out a couple of pairs she'd really like to duplicate. She was also inspired to go take a picture of HER socks, so we may have to inflict that upon you later.

Your living room... so darned cozy!!!!

This is going to be a weekly program, right? Photos-by-[livejournal.com profile] tofty Sundays!

Hahaha! You have just seen about everything worth seeing! But I will post weekly photos of life if you will! We can do a week-in-pictures feature. I've always meant to use my camera more, after all...

I think it is only fair that you post Brooke's picture of her sock drawer! I would love to see it. :D

(also, I would love to steal Raleigh also, but he would pine without my parents.:( )

Oh my goodness, your house is all full of sunlight and books and fireplaces and teapots. I love it! And I especially love your pink bathroom, which would make a lovely home for my flamingo collection. I may have to send you something to start one of your own -- it's actually appropriate to the era of the house.

And I think this is the first time I have seen photos of you at all. That hat with the flower on the side makes you look like a flapper. So cute! Enough that I can forgive the lack of Alan Rickman in a leather jacket.

Date: 2006-12-17 10:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com
I wasn't too sure about my pink bathroom at first, I admit. But it has definitely grown on me. A pink flamingo to liven it up is an excellent idea!

I adore the flapper look, and always have (and of course cloches are a big part of that look). Do you remember how fabulous Jennifer Jason Leigh looked in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle? She -- as Dorothy Parker, I mean -- is pretty much my aesthetic ideal, and if I thought I could carry it off, I would totally dress like that all the time.

And! Hahahaha, I meant to post this (http://www.nd.edu/~tchapman/Sheriff+of+Nottingham.jpg) as part of my picspam, but I forgot. How typical that I should spoil my own joke in this way! :(

From: [identity profile] amelia-eve.livejournal.com
Bwah! Who doesn't love Alan Rickman with hair spray?

And yes, I love the flapper style, though I get frustrated in true cloche hats because they block most peripheral vision and tend not to work well with glasses. I have one oversized bowler hat with a velvet band that has the general shape, but I always think I'm more Emma Goldman than Dorothy Parker. Parker's infamous hats are just another reason to love her!

Oh, Camelot! Honestly, one day I want to come stay for a week or a month and just be. Bachelor No. 2 is just so wonderfully charming, as are your pets, and you! The lamp being in the guest bedroom is perhaps the biggest drawcard...

THE SOCKS. I am assuming they are meant to read as "My Love", but why your love would be specifically restricted to your feet/socks is beyond me. Perhaps they are meant to be "Love My (FEET WHICH ARE CONVENIENTLY LOCATED INSIDE THESE SOCKS)"?? I may be on to something here.

Date: 2006-12-19 01:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com
You may indeed be onto something! One still wonders why the need to inscribe the socks with such a motto, but -- well hell, why not, anyway?

And you still have to come visit me and my pirated internet and my front porch and my strawberry daiquiris and my pets. Name the date, and the guest room lamp is yours to command!

But you know, I really want to steal Raleigh. A dog that looks like a deer. Any photos of this phenomenon?

Date: 2006-12-19 01:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com
No, no photos of Raleigh rampant: the problem is that he runs really fast, even if not fast enough to win races. He's hard to capture -- but I will try, once my parents return to GA.

The only thing that would be the icing on the cake would be if Raleigh was named after Raleigh St. Clair ...? Our favourite neurologist?

Date: 2006-12-19 02:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com
Sadly, no: trust me when I say that my parents have not the least idea who Raleigh St. Clair is. But we can always pretend, can't we?

The name sort of suits him, that tentative sweetness.
