By way of apology for the week the universe has seen fit to dole out for me and mine, I got home this afternoon and my long-ago-lost fast pirated internet connection was back. And so now I am sitting here with a heartwormy dog attached to me by a leash; and we are both a little battered, it is true, but we are still, I am happy to report, afloat (though somewhat insolvent), and feeling tired, but (with a three-day weekend ahead of us) perfectly corking.

And my gosh I feel like celebrating my good fortune by downloading copious amounts of internet, though I do have two seasons of Jeeves and Wooster and a season of Arrested Development to catch up on. So I am calling for recommendations. Any movies or television you feel I mustn't miss? Any music? Any filthy porn? Anything?

Oh, thank you! I've been wanting to see this since you first started posting about it!

Heartworm? Oh, no! The vets out here are forever terrorizing us with the consequences of not subscribing to heartworm medication, but I've never heard about what they do for dogs who are infected. There's treatment, though, right?

Yay for three day weekends! I'm looking forward to one of those myself. Have you seen Picnic at Hanging Rock? I saw it in the theaters long ago, but I have it in my queue to see again. It's so weird and haunting!

Yep, there's treatment all right--roughly six hundred dollars' worth. I've always kept my pets on heartworm meds, but my boss has no regimen, apparently, so when Leory got his shots this past weekend... Anyway, it is treatable, and he's just had the first course, and will get the second and final in three weeks, and then, I hope, he'll be fine, and never go another month without his meds again.

I have seen--and loved--Picnic at Hanging Rock! Weird and haunting describes it perfectly. I've tried to describe it to people who haven't seen it, and it's impossible; it sounds ridiculous and melodramatic in precis, but it's so beautifully eerie when you actually see it!

One of these days, I am going to get this Polish poster (http://www.polishposter.com/images/1333.jpg) for the film, because I'm such a fan, and also because I think this poster is just exactly right for it, beautiful and kind of odd. Haunting, as you say.

$600!!!??! That's got to be vexing for a mortgage-paying, responsible pet owner to swallow. I'm glad it's treatable, though- it's a condition that's given me nightmares ever since reading about it in Prince of Tides. Leory clearly pulled the lucky card when he came to live with you.

You're right; the movie does sound ridiculous and melodramatic, or else like something that could be amply covered in a nice, 10-minute Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge-esque film short. There's no way to convey the creepy feeling one gets while watching it. I spent forever trying to track down the book, and never did get my own copy. [livejournal.com profile] gaycrow was kind enough to send me her own copy all the way from Australia (and I really should send it back one of these days) and I proclaim this film "Most Loyal to its Book EVER".

I love the poster- it really is perfect!

I read 'heartwormy' as 'heartwarmy' and was all awwwww ...

Anyway, I watched season 3 of Arrested Development, and it was brilliant. The consistency and quality of the show are just fabulous.
