Ahhhhh, there you are!
By way of apology for the week the universe has seen fit to dole out for me and mine, I got home this afternoon and my long-ago-lost fast pirated internet connection was back. And so now I am sitting here with a heartwormy dog attached to me by a leash; and we are both a little battered, it is true, but we are still, I am happy to report, afloat (though somewhat insolvent), and feeling tired, but (with a three-day weekend ahead of us) perfectly corking.
And my gosh I feel like celebrating my good fortune by downloading copious amounts of internet, though I do have two seasons of Jeeves and Wooster and a season of Arrested Development to catch up on. So I am calling for recommendations. Any movies or television you feel I mustn't miss? Any music? Any filthy porn? Anything?

Yay for three day weekends! I'm looking forward to one of those myself. Have you seen Picnic at Hanging Rock? I saw it in the theaters long ago, but I have it in my queue to see again. It's so weird and haunting!

I have seen--and loved--Picnic at Hanging Rock! Weird and haunting describes it perfectly. I've tried to describe it to people who haven't seen it, and it's impossible; it sounds ridiculous and melodramatic in precis, but it's so beautifully eerie when you actually see it!
One of these days, I am going to get this Polish poster (http://www.polishposter.com/images/1333.jpg) for the film, because I'm such a fan, and also because I think this poster is just exactly right for it, beautiful and kind of odd. Haunting, as you say.

You're right; the movie does sound ridiculous and melodramatic, or else like something that could be amply covered in a nice, 10-minute Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge-esque film short. There's no way to convey the creepy feeling one gets while watching it. I spent forever trying to track down the book, and never did get my own copy.
I love the poster- it really is perfect!

Anyway, I watched season 3 of Arrested Development, and it was brilliant. The consistency and quality of the show are just fabulous.
