Today, for the first time ever, I paid more than two dollars a gallon for gas.

I was reading a profile of a ten-year-old boy named Colin Duffy the other night, and in it he guessed that the best thing about being an adult was that you could drive, and this meant that you could get in your car any time at all and drive to the store to buy candy. When I read this, I thought to myself, You know what? Being able to drive to get candy any time you want--well, it might not be the absolute best-with-a-cherry-on-top thing about being a grownup, but it's way up there. Until now. From now on, every time I hop in my car to drive the five miles to the nearest store that sells candy, I will be thinking, Just how much money is it going to cost me this time???

I have news for you, Colin Duffy. Sometimes, being a grownup just sucks, and not even unlimited access to candy makes it better.

No, sorry, I wasn't very clear there, was I? I meant: if I scan it and email it to you, you'll be able to see the photos but not read the text. So I thought I would just go to Kinko's and make color photocopies so you could have the photos and be able to read the story, too.

But I remembered that you work in a bookstore, so maybe they carry this magazine and you don't need me at all. Sniff.

Anyway, if you want, just email me your address and I'll make the copies and mail it to you. I won't get to it until Monday or Tuesday, though.
