Friends, you might want to be sitting down for this news. It is news so astounding, so dramatically unexpected, that I believe I feel the very foundations of the earth shifting beneath me as I sit in my study typing. My news is this:

I am wearing heels to work. Willingly.

Tune in this afternoon, when in an attempt to prolong your astonished favor I will come home and go through my mail. I tell you truly that there is nothing I will not do to keep you captivated. I love you that much.

Oh gee, it's possible, I know I brought it on that trip. It's burnout velvet in a floral pattern, and then it's kind of mottled in shades of gray. My mom got it for something like three dollars at Ross many years ago. It's wonderfully useful.

Oh, excellent! I have not been approved for membership yet in stylishly_yours, but I'll be glad to share here. In fact, I'll give you two for the price of one, because I changed into comfy clothes as soon as I got home, so.

Work Outfit:

• cobalt blue fitted, ribbed ballerina-neck sweater


• black straight knee-length skirt with windowpane check in cobalt and white


• sheer black tights, which it is time to go down a size because these are kind of baggy on me


• 3-inch heeled black nubuck loafers with silver buckle-type things

Home Outfit:

• baby blue 3/4 sleeve t-shirt


• flannel pajama pants, cut yoga-style, in a navy/baby blue/lime plaid


• silver nose stud

If we are talking about invite-only fashion blogs (and if we're not, WE SHOULD), then I can confess to you that my secret, shallow desire is to be invited to post on lookbook.nu (http://lookbook.nu/). But you either have to know somebody, or prove that you have "a strong interest or background in fashion." There is actually an application page with an essay box. Having no idea how I would prove such a thing, I remain lookbook-less, although I can easily look TWICE as sloppily disheveled as those meddling kids.

I think it was something like, if you design your own clothes or run a fashion blog, or something like that. As in, you needed a resume. (I don't know how all those 14-year-olds pull it off. They're too young to be cool.)

Good God. Yeah, I'd be kind of surprised if a girl that young had a resume, or even knew how to articulate a love for clothes in any sort of impressive way. Since they're all lithe and lovely, though, I suspect there might be other unstated criteria at work. (In which case you'd be a shoo-in!)
