You know how sometimes you wake up with a seemingly insatiable desire to know everything there is to know about everyone you know? You want to know what they have for breakfast and what they're doing right this second and what they're planning on doing today and what they're actually going to get around to doing, what they're thinking about and how they're feeling, and you find it overwhelming because there's just so much to know and you know you'll never know it all, and in your frustration -- and with the rising early-morning conviction that you're being a little crazy -- you just decide to get over it, and so you do, you push it down and roll over in bed and sleep for a few more minutes; and by the time your snooze alarm rings again, you're ready to start another day as a more non-crazy sort of person.

Or maybe you don't do that at all. But the point is that I do, and this morning the urge is clinging to me tightly enough that I'm not being so successful in shaking it. And I don't normally feel all that comfortable demanding information from people, but just this once I'm going to indulge myself in a small and useless (and determinedly superficial) way. Today I want to know, like any internet pervert worth her bandwidth allocation, what you're wearing. In detail as macroscopic or as microscopic as you'd like to make it. Surface only, or all the way down to the skin.

Okay, go. :)

Pushing the boundaries of business casual here:

Black pinwale corduroy boot-cut jeans with a black leather belt
Fine-gauge merino V-neck sweater in a deep purple color called "Mulberry" by Talbots, where I bought it
White tank top with a lace applique just peeping out of the V
Black Aerosole ankle boots
Black socks
(some sort of strategic support bra and cotton panties I've already forgotten)

If you like this sort of thing on a regular basis, you might consider joining the [livejournal.com profile] stylishly_yours comm. It's a place where several clever women post about their own and others' clothing and fashion theory in sometimes excruciating detail. It can be very cathartic to get to natter on about these things and actually get feedback on them.

Oooh, nice! I have a pair of black Aerosole ankle boots too! I wonder if they're in any way similar? Odds say that they are not, but I'm still curious. They are the most comfortable shoes on earth.

My interest here is less as a fashionista and more as an anthropologist? So I don't know if I'd be welcome on [livejournal.com profile] stylishly_yours. I took a look at it, though, and it's pretty fascinating. One person's entries in particular are like poetry, which is a sort of synesthesia that pleases me. :) I might have to join just to read -- do you think that'd be okay?

Sure, not everybody on [livejournal.com profile] stylishly_yours posts. There are many mostly lurkers. The only requirement is that a member must vouch that they know you to be female, which I do! There are a few other rules for the comm, which you should read on the info page, but mostly it's not restrictive. And it needs more US members! I just can't comment about buying a Mac at Monsoon in the sales.

My Aerosoles boots are essentially made like desert boots, except they are in smooth black leather. I really need shoes and boots with laces because since I started wearing the lift that has helped my back so much, I need to be able to adjust one shoe differently than the other to accommodate it. These are pretty comfy, though not as comfy as my Easy Spirit boots, which are brown.

Huh! We might have the same boots after all. Mine are as you describe -- in addition, the top of the boot is slightly padded.

So. Do I just join the community, and the mods will get back to me and ask for my reference? Or Do you need to write first or something?

I love the Bletchley Park event! Do y'all do those things on regular basis?

I think you can just join the comm, and possibly send an email to the mods, cc'ing me as a reference.

Also, I forgot to mention (though you have probably figured it out) that one of the regular posters actually is an anthropologist!

We had another Theme Day for the 50th anniversary of the Festival of Britain. We've discussed doing more, but nothing has come together yet.
