You know how sometimes you wake up with a seemingly insatiable desire to know everything there is to know about everyone you know? You want to know what they have for breakfast and what they're doing right this second and what they're planning on doing today and what they're actually going to get around to doing, what they're thinking about and how they're feeling, and you find it overwhelming because there's just so much to know and you know you'll never know it all, and in your frustration -- and with the rising early-morning conviction that you're being a little crazy -- you just decide to get over it, and so you do, you push it down and roll over in bed and sleep for a few more minutes; and by the time your snooze alarm rings again, you're ready to start another day as a more non-crazy sort of person.

Or maybe you don't do that at all. But the point is that I do, and this morning the urge is clinging to me tightly enough that I'm not being so successful in shaking it. And I don't normally feel all that comfortable demanding information from people, but just this once I'm going to indulge myself in a small and useless (and determinedly superficial) way. Today I want to know, like any internet pervert worth her bandwidth allocation, what you're wearing. In detail as macroscopic or as microscopic as you'd like to make it. Surface only, or all the way down to the skin.

Okay, go. :)

This will be less exciting than it would have been two other times today, as it's now 11:48pm for me. I am in pyjamas, or my take on them, and seeing as it is quite warm this evening that doesn't cover much. A green razorback singlet (I have three others exactly the same, one is black and two are grey and I like them because they have a snug waistband bit instead of just sitting loose, therefore they are good to wear under things) and clashing light blue cotton blend boxers with a white print pattern on them of birds flying away from open cages. I also have my blue glasses frames on. That's it, I'm sorry to tell you.

Goodnight!

I'm in the same thing I wear almost every day: black baggy sweatpants and an oversized short-sleeved T-shirt. At the moment I also have my sneakers on, but will be shedding them momentarily in favor of my comfy slippers. No make-up and my hair's in a messy ponytail. I love working from home. :-)

So. ENVIOUS. I love working from home too, for that reason, but when I'm working at home it's after hours, and so the thrill isn't quite as sharp.

I wake up with that very thought in my head all the time. *shrugs* I don't normally feel like a crazy person about it, though. Mostly I think it's the writer in me trying to get into people's (character's) heads.

Today I am currently wearing blue and grey striped trouser socks, lime green and blue striped boy briefs, white bra, light blue low rise Levi's, white long sleeved Henley, and a grey zip up fleece. And my quacking ducky slippers.

It's not the wanting-to-know that makes me feel all crazy-like -- it's the anxiety that my knowledge will by definition never be complete. I guess part of the problem is that my desire for knowledge isn't objective at all, it's very personal. It's a desire for knowledge that I probably shouldn't have access to.

Quacking ducky slippers FTW!

Hm, I'm a bit less shabby than usual. It's now 14:01 and I just came back from my lunch break. I'm wearing a black pencil skirt, forest green stockings, and black riding boots. A green and black asymmetrical top with one sleeve, and black asymmetrical earrings made of clock hands. As the lack of one sleeve is making me feel kinda cold, I've got my black shawl thrown over my shoulders. I'm wearing more make-up than normal, as I'm going out later, so red lipstick, dark green eyeliner, half a ton of mascara.

Hahahahahahaha!

Okay, here's my fabulous ensemble: red flannel reindeer-patterned jammie pants, a burgundy, slightly-spattered-with-yellow-paint long-sleeved t-shirt (holey at the wrists from being ripped at by Phoebus when she was a puppy), white socks, assorted underwear, and a pair of scuffed brown shoes (Brooke calls them "meatloafers"). An embarrassing outfit, to be sure, but that won't stop me from wearing it to shlep the kid to school in another few minutes. Slattern!

Pushing the boundaries of business casual here:

Black pinwale corduroy boot-cut jeans with a black leather belt
Fine-gauge merino V-neck sweater in a deep purple color called "Mulberry" by Talbots, where I bought it
White tank top with a lace applique just peeping out of the V
Black Aerosole ankle boots
Black socks
(some sort of strategic support bra and cotton panties I've already forgotten)

If you like this sort of thing on a regular basis, you might consider joining the [livejournal.com profile] stylishly_yours comm. It's a place where several clever women post about their own and others' clothing and fashion theory in sometimes excruciating detail. It can be very cathartic to get to natter on about these things and actually get feedback on them.

Oooh, nice! I have a pair of black Aerosole ankle boots too! I wonder if they're in any way similar? Odds say that they are not, but I'm still curious. They are the most comfortable shoes on earth.

My interest here is less as a fashionista and more as an anthropologist? So I don't know if I'd be welcome on [livejournal.com profile] stylishly_yours. I took a look at it, though, and it's pretty fascinating. One person's entries in particular are like poetry, which is a sort of synesthesia that pleases me. :) I might have to join just to read -- do you think that'd be okay?

I'm wearing a black knit shirt, a little too big but I keep it because I love the neckline-- almost square, with a short line of ruching down the center that pulls it just barely into a sweetheart line, trimmed with a narrow velvet ribbon. Plus jeans, black socks, my burgundy Campers-- basically a rugby shoe detailed like a wing-tip-- my new carnelian and tourmelated quartz necklace and mud-green jasper earrings from [livejournal.com profile] elisem's "The Post-Colonial Literature of Elves" series ("Lumber, Cut and Stacked"). Plus glasses and watch, but I wear those every day.

Giant purple fleece turtleneck pullover thing with an orange nylon-spandex athletic-style t-shirt underneath, cause I wanted to be warm today at the ref desk. (You can't see the orange t-shirt, but if you could, I'd be happy. I like bizarre color combinations, they wake people up and make *me* happy.) No bra, why bother?

LL Bean cotton chinos, whitish. White cotton undies. :)

I was wearing my purple wool socks, but they don't fit in the psychedelic-swirl gold, green, red and black velvet clogs. So I'm just wearing the gray sock liners.

I was just eating those teeny little oranges. i think I'll make a study of them the way you did apples. :)

I AM WEARING: boring things, but i'll give you all the details about them. WE HAVE: a short-sleeved navy blue men's polo shirt (size M); a grey hanes men's undershirt (size M) with a large rip in the right underarm; wide-legged khaki pants from old navy (they have these ugly square front pockets, but they meet my only pants requirements in that they are wide-legged [size 12]); a white opaque polyester bra with lace around the bustline (size 38DD jesus christ); peach and pink wide-striped cotton underpants (size L); white (with pink heel and toe) hanes for women's ankle socks. also, one pair of black plastic glasses (on face), one pale blue pony tail holder (in hair), one pair of 14-gauge captive bead hoops (in earlobes), one pair of 12-gauge captive bead hoops (in earlobes), one 14-gauge captive bead hoop (in left ear tragus), one 14-gauge captive bead hoop (in lower lip, left side) AND one 16-gauge faux-diamond piercing stud in right nostril.

I love you for including your jewelry and everything. You are so awesome for feeding me this kind of crack. And also, you are a much more hardcore pierced person than I am! I mean, I knew that already from the sheer number of piercings, but your gauges are much lower than mine, too. I thought I was going to die when I poked my first 18-gauge through, and I haven't gone lower than that.

Also, remind me to ask you a personal piercing question someday.

A fuchsia dress from Express with black satin bands at the shoulder-cuffs and hem and a black belt. Black (fake leather) riding boots with two buckles each. Black & white cross-hatched socks, beige underwear, beige bra. My Citizen watch, which is golden (not sure if it's gold!). Headphones, because I'm listening to music at my desk.

Also: Bumble&bumble Brilliantine in my hair, Origins toner & moisturizer face, and (fuschia-ish) lipstick and (dark grey) eyeshadow and masacara, to match my dress. Much fancier than I usually wear to work, but I'm heading to DC shortly to see Hell Meets Henry Halfway at Woolly Mammoth. Many fewer layers than I should be wearing, too--it's in the 40s.

I'm wearing a fuzzy cream kind-of-chenille sweater from J.Jill that I loved when I bought it, realized made me look fat, didn't wear for two years, unearthed earlier this winter, finally worked up the courage to wear today, and realized that I've lost so much weight that the sweater is too big. I am also wearing the awesomest pants in the world - black Patagonia Serenity Capris, which are long enough on me to be wide-legged dress pants. And a pair of Naturalizer boots that are cooler than the Naturalizer brand would suggest, but which desperately need to be polished. Or colored on with a Sharpie.

Yes, I have that reaction - I currently have a serious fascination-based crush on two friends, and I just want to know EVERYTHING about them. Like, kind of laundry detergent, why their fridge always looks overfull if they eat the same thing for lunch every day, and how they talk to each other when I'm not around. I'm hoping the fascination doesn't show - if it does, I probably look like I'm the scary kind of crazy.

cooler than the Naturalizer brand would suggest

The brand doesn't suggest style, does it? And yet I myself have a pair of their pointy-toed slingbacks which are very beautiful. And also comfy! Because that is what the brand does suggest, and I'm glad that that they make shoes that are both.

Like, kind of laundry detergent, why their fridge always looks overfull if they eat the same thing for lunch every day, and how they talk to each other when I'm not around

Oh, man. I crush on almost everyone I meet in this way. It's pretty exhausting, not to mention a little unsavory! But I'm so reserved that I'm never really in any danger of revealing my fascination. I think. Maybe I shouldn't just assume that this is true.

You are dressed for winter! I take it you resolved the skirts-in-winter-in-CA issue to your satisfaction?

I am totally dressed for spring. I got up this morning and it was warmer outside than it was inside the house, and so I dressed accordingly. But then it sneakily got cold again! And so I'm regretting not having worn a jacket, and maybe some socks.

Today, I flaunted the denim-only-on-Fridays rule and wore jeans. I already have the pink slip (RIFFED!), so I have nothing to lose!

Anyway, I am wearing long, dark-rinse jeans from Gap ($4.59 at Goodwill), a black Old Navy tank top, a cream-and-black zebra silk cardigan with 3/4 sleeves from Ann Taylor (also $4.59 at Goodwill), black Costume National boots (um, way more than $4.59), black socks and my black leather jacket from Argentina. Black pearl drop earrings, wedding/engagement ring, grandmother's diamond ring, Ebel watch. Plain cotton Jockey panties, but my super sexy lace embroidered Felina bra.

Pink-slipped as in called on the carpet, or pink-slipped as in out of there? Is the RIFFED giving me a clue I'm not understanding?

Anyway, you are glamorous too! Which makes me happy. And I love that most of your clothes came from Goodwill (the super-excellent Goodwill?), and I'm kind of wondering whether you ever got your burgundy streaks, because the glamor, it would then know no bounds.
