The surprising number of people who want a handmade card from me (step up here if you want a card and haven't asked for one yet), they are making up for the fact that an equally surprising number of people want a non-explosive card, which has kind of spoiled some of my holiday plans, but hey, I am nothing if not adaptable, and as we all know, I aim to please.

I am very excited -- no lie -- to be able to make cards for people. I don't think I've said more than nineteen times in this space how much I adore papercrafts, so it bears repeating now, and though I am no Peter Callesen, and though I haven't made anything for a while, I shall do my best not to disappoint.

:::

Also, I did this last year, or maybe it was the year before, and I think I might make it a tradition. In case you were wondering what to get me.

I do, actually, have a four-leaf clover or two I could send you, if you don't mind them pressed. But if you're a live-clover purist, I'm afraid I can't help.

hahahaha, I have nothing against pressed clover! Are you quite serious? Because I'd love one. :)

I am, in fact, quite serious. I'll even send you two, since I pressed them together.

Hmmm. Would you like something in return? How about a free book? :D

Hee. (Depends. Got anything good?)

I can almost guarantee you that I have something you'd like -- I have a lot of books -- but I'm not sure what you like best. Any hints?

Hmm. Things I liked that you may or may not have read and therefore which may or may not serve as examples:

HP (of course)

Bobbie Faye's Very (Very Very) Bad Day

Publish and Perish (James Hynes)

Straight Man (Richard Russo)

The Body Project (Joan Jacobs Brumberg)

I also like Alice Dreger's writing and books about food.

I should note that I hated Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides) and the His Dark Materials series. Jury's still out on Paolini's Eragon series; the books are too Tolkien-esque, and since I need a distinction between what I read for fun and what I read for work, I can't handle that much detail from my fun reading. Which also means I don't like Tolkien.

But really, don't feel compelled to send me anything.

Have you read Calvin Trillin...?

Food memoir. He's terrific, I think -- funny and interesting.

He sounds lovely. Shall we trade addresses offline, assuming that you are not a crazed stalker with ready access to quick travel or someone who will post my true identity on a scandal-mongering website? I can drop the clovers in the mail on Tuesday...

p.s. We have a poster of the image from which your icon was taken in my former department. It's very cool.

What, the peace on earth icon? I love the photo, which I snagged from Getty Images. I had no idea there was a poster! I may have to get it.

Oh, no, I mean this icon you're using above, of the woman holding her eyelids open. I wish I had the peace on earth photo.

Oh. OH! I love this more than just about anything. I didn't realize there was a poster of it available! I might have to see if I can find it.

I will gladly send you all the authority assumed by the woman who's going to be working with me in January -- and believe me, she has siphoned up more than you or anyone but her could possibly ever want.

In return, I'd love a card. Explosive is fine! :) I'll send on my address.

I'll take it, man!

And I am already planning your exploding card. :D:D:D:D

So, I'll send you a thunderstorm; we have plenty here.

Can I have your address over there too, so that I can send it to you?

From: [identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com
oooh, I miss thunderstorms; we had them all the time in Louisiana, but we hardly ever get them here.

Email me at tradescant at gmail dot com, and I'll send you back my address -- but resend me your address, too! For some reason, the poll only picked up the first line.

Haha. I love your wish lists. However, I've got something a little more consumery in mind for you. (Because I'm shallow even if you're not.)

I've been meaning to send you an email. In fact I will go and do it right now. I don't know what address you use most these days but I will pick the most likely one, and you must tell me if you don't receive a message.

I did receive, and I'm on my way to answer it now! My email address used to change every year or two, but I'm hoping to keep my current ones forever. Gmail, may you live long and prosper.
