Regarding the very important matter of My Hair:

I've been growing it out for a year or two now, and for the last six months or so I've been toying with the idea of cutting it all off. Not because it looked particularly bad (because it looked fine), and not because it was particularly hard to deal with (because it wasn't); I could never put my finger on why I wanted it short, exactly, never come up with a good reason for cutting it short. I mean, it's convenient to have hair long enough to get out of your way with rubber bands! It's satisfying to grab your hair and lift your arms up as far as you can and still be holding your hair (I do not know why this is so satisfying, but it really, really is)! And it turns out that when one takes care of one's cinnamon-colored hair, it stays cinnamon-colored, rather than bleaching out to an unflattering apricot color on the ends! And so it kept growing, and I kept looking in the mirror and thinking, I really should get it cut off, and I kept not getting it cut off.

And then this morning I got up and was running errands, and I drove past the place I get my hair cut, and thought, hey, I could use a trim, and went inside to see if my hairdresser was (1) there and (2) accepting walk-ins, and she (1) was and (2) was, and so I got my hair shampooed and then when she asked what I wanted, instead of saying that I wanted a trim, I heard myself saying that I wanted my old short bob back. And as soon as I said it, I knew that it was the right thing to do. And she chopped off enough to ship off to Locks of Love, and shaped it up, and when it was all blown out and styled and she let me put my glasses back on (I can never tell what I'm getting till it's over, because my eyesight's so terrible), I suddenly knew why I kept thinking for those months that I needed to get my hair chopped off. It was because it wasn't me, that person with hair down her back, it was someone else, someone whose hair was kind of nice and who could put it up to get it out of her way. As soon as I saw my familiar face with my familiar hair in the mirror, I went all shivery with delight and recognition. My hairdresser probably thought I was crazy, I was so happy with that haircut.

I'm glad to have me back. Can you tell?

YOU ARE ADORABLE.

And funnily enough, I felt the same way about growing my hair out really long! I do not know why. I've never had long hair in my life. And I had it pixie-cut short for like five or six years. But now I look at my long hair in the mirror and think, "Yeah, this is me." Isn't it weird how that happens?

Anyway. To repeat: ADORABLE.

OH MY GOD are you telling me that if I'd only hung in there longer I'd have eventually got used to it? *weeps tears of blud* I love you with long hair, though -- it's such pretty hair -- and even though I've never seen pictures of the pixie cut, I can't help but think you made the right choice there.

♥♥♥♥!

I cannot believe how long it has been since I saw you last because this is the hair I remember on you. When I got to the line about being able to hold on to your hair with your arms fully extended, I was flabbergasted. I'm sorry there isn't a BEFORE shot. Nonetheless, you are right, that's your haircut, and I am only a teensy bit jealous of the very deserving person who is going to end up wearing your red hair around.

It really has been a long time, man! The last time I had my signature hair was ... maybe two years ago? I HAVE MISSED IT SO GODDAMN MUCH. And I never realized how much until saw myself in the mirror this morning.

i loved the pictures of your long hair over the last two years -- what, all two of them? was it even two? maybe it was just one! -- but you had the bob when i first started talking to you, and i loved it then, and i love it still. :>

You ARE adorable. You don't look anything like I was expecting - which was also adorable, in a different kind of way - but I could just climb into that photo and hug you and make you go get a chocolate doughnut with me.

For the record, a chocolate doughnut would require absolutely no persuasion. Hence the overall roundness of that face. *hugs you through photo*

Ahahaha! I guess you do look more like you with short hair, now that you come to mention it. I never thought about it that way, seeing you with the longer hair; but now it seems kind of obvious.

And you do, indeed, look so pretty. ♥ Long, sideswept bangs are one of my favorite hairstyles ever. They are just so flattering.

Hahahaha, nice to have it confirmed, man! I agree with you on the bangs, too -- I originally requested very short ones, and after she'd hacked the length off the back, I changed my mind about them. I think I made the hairdresser's heart stop when the words "I changed my mind" came out of my mouth. But it was just the bangs!

Very nice! That is a terrific cut on you. And your hair is still longer than mine. [g]

Hee! Thanks, and this is actually the longer of my two favored haircuts of the past decade or two. I am curious to see yours, now, though!

It is you!

That's a great cut, and you look wonderful. I know that revelation exactly. I got my hair cut today, in fact, and it wasn't nearly as drastic a change as yours -- from getting in my eyes and being shaggy and lumpy and impossible to neat and pixie -- but for the last four or five haircuts, I haven't been able to convince the various stylists that I really want it that short. And finally, this new one got it with no hassle, and suddenly there I was in the mirror and every single day for the next several weeks is going to be easier because of it, I just know it.

So, hooray! I'm glad you're happy with it.

I can't imagine you with any haircut but your wonderful pixie 'do, just because you look so fabulous in it. And I'm glad to hear you had a good haircut too -- everyone should have one so they can fully understand just how wonderful it is. :D

Aww, but it's exactly how it should be! I am growing my short hair out with something like your haircut in mind, and I envy you the fact that you can have a side parting. Mine grows in this stupid cowlick and will insist on parting in the middle.

Lovely!

Hahahaha, and I can't part my own hair anywhere else but where it's parted in that photo because of my cowlick! Life is so unfair. :(

And thank you, thank you!

YOU LOOK JUST LIKE A PERSON!

And you do look sortof like your user icon, too! Where is that from?!

And also, do you ever wear hats? I somehow (completely unfounded) imagined that you might wear a hat and drink from painted tea cups a lot of the time.

I do try my hardest to look like a person! And on my better days, I succeed.

I have some hats, and more gloves, and I would love to be the sort of person who wears them to sip tea, but alas, they make me feel self-conscious and awkward, so mostly I don't wear them at all. Maybe someday that will miraculously change, though -- in anticipation of that day, I am saving the hats and gloves.

And the painting in my icon is from a painting by Gerard Dubois (Face with Heart Eye). I found it on the storyopolis.com (http://www.storyopolis.com) website, along with many other of my favorite icons.
