Last night, thanks to a trip to my parents' and a stop at the grocery store, saw me getting home long past dark. When that happens, I don't usually park in my garage, because although my garage is well-lit, my driveway and/or back stairs are not, and it's a treacherous hike to get to a door in the dark, from my garage. So when I get home after dark, I park on the street in front of my house. Even though I know I shouldn't.

Last night karma caught up with me but good, and some person or persons unknown knocked the hell out of my rearview mirror and broke it off. It's now dangling off the side of my car by the a few wires, in a couple of pieces, and I am hopping mad.

I guess it was only a matter of time, really, before I got sideswiped while parked on the street. I guess it was too much to ask that an accident taking place on a deserted street in the middle of the night be reported. I guess it could have been worse than a smacked-up mirror. But knowing all of this is not making me any happier. If I knew who it was, I'd gladly, consciencelessly take to his her windshield with a baseball bat.

To end on a more positive note: my niece Gracie is being born today. :D:D:D:D:D

I'd be hopping mad, too. I'm so sorry about your mirror, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not too costly to fix, and that it doesn't make you unsafe driving around without it.

See, now if we lived nearby, I could send the spouse over to install those motion floodlights in your driveway/back porch area.

Three cheers for Gracie! May she ace the Apgar test and cause her mother a minimum of discomfort getting here!

Well, I'm hoping not too much too. I cannot afford random expensive car repairs, darn it! Don't these hit-and-runsters take these things into consideration when they go knocking people's mirrors off? >:O

And I would totally accept any offers of motion-lamp installations. I do already have one, but a yard like mine needs at least two more.

And Gracie has arrived, I'm happy to say, beautiful and healthy and knocking her family's socks off. :D:D:D:D It sort of puts broken mirrors into perspective, I have to say.

Yikes! I am glad that you are safe, though. I'm also obscurely charmed to know that there is still someone out there who has not booby-trapped their home with those motion-sensor lamps, though perhaps you should consider it.

Hurrah for Gracie!

Well, as I said to Laurel, I do already have one, but it doesn't light up nearly all the path to the back door. I am definitely going to get another, though, if it means no more morning surprises.

*cheers thrice for new niece!*

How annoying! I hope you can get your car fixed quickly and reasonably inexpensively. And I hope the driver who hit it is racked with guilt all Christmas.

We've got one of those motion-activated security lights, and I love it--not because it lights up when anyone else is back there, but because when I'm getting out of the car and have forgotten to leave lights on, it makes the back door visible.

My backyard motion-sensor light is useful, but just not quite enough. I foresee more of them in my future -- I am psychic that way. :D

ARGH.

When my bicycle was stolen (years and years ago) it was a good thing I didn't own a firearm, because I wanted to shoot up Harvard Square, I was so angry. I hope good things happen to you today to balance things out.

New niece good enough for me! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I felt a little guilty posting this morning on the heels of your much worse misfortune, but I was just too mad to keep my mouth shut. May we both have cooperative insurance companies to see us through!

Sorry about your car -- but just think, at least you weren't getting out of it when they drove by!!!

Happy Solstice, anyways. :)

very true -- and mirror or no, it's been an excellent day. So it really does all balance out. :)

Happy solstice to you, too!
