Life in Bachelor No. 2
Nov. 26th, 2006 01:33 pmThis morning I packed up my laptop-related belongings and carted them off to my favorite free-wireless cafe so that I could catch up just a little bit (in the process having a panicked half-hour during which I thought that my ATM card, and then my wallet, were missing). My bagel and tea were lovely, and the sun was warm against the back of my neck, and I came home to wrap Christmas presents because my committed domesticity these days knows no bounds, and then discovered to my astonishment that my pirated connection is back, and so I have to celebrate by writing something. no matter how, you know, trivial.
:::
I realized at some point over the weekend that it is just over a year since I decided to bid on Bachelor No. 2. Thinking back on the agony of those two months at the end of last year, thinking on the various repairs and headaches the house has brought since then, I've been wondering if it was really worth it.
Well, I said that badly. What I really mean is that I asked myself that question once, came back with a resounding YES almost immediately, and have spent the days since looking smugly around at my snug little bachelor, with all the curtains up and most of the pictures hung, and all of it mine and all of it so beautiful (and these days CLEAN which doesn't happen so often) that I am not so much wondering if I made the right decision as floating around in a happy daze, still thinking IS IT REALLY MINE IT REALLY IS ISN'T IT.
The honeymoon is not over yet, I guess.
