constance: (*takes foolish risk*)

I'm missing my daily dosage of livejournal (odd moments stolen from work here and there absolutely do not count) so much that I am seriously considering breaking down and actually paying for some sort of connection, can you believe it? I know it's crazy talk. But there: that's an addict for you, anything for a fix.

As I said before, I'm getting lots done without the Internet to distract me, getting ready for Thanksgiving, doing things like hanging the pictures that were for months just strategically propped on mantelpieces or against the walls on the floors (which of course is very chic but not exactly a wise decorating choice when you live in a house with an active cat population) and unpacking the boxes filled with gifts that I never have used and puchases I probably never needed in the first place.

(I've been thinking this week that maybe it's time I started selling things on ebay. I've been resisting this notion for a while now because, well, it just seems like such a pain in the ass, boxing up everything and getting to the post office and making sure buyers pay up and keeping track of what's been sold to whom, and when. I used to have garage sales, back when I had roommates, but giving a garage sale alone seems like a headache to end all headaches, and I'm not so interested in that. And for the past few years, I've just donated things to charities, but I could sort of use the money, you know, and really I'm mentioning this because I've been wondering what sort of experiences you've had selling things online, ebay sellers. Is the payout worth the effort?)

Anyway, catching up and desultorily cleaning and organizing, that's what I've been doing, and idly thinking about the menu I'm going to be cooking for my parents on Thanksgiving, and then yesterday I realized OH MY GOD THANKSGIVING IS NEXT WEEK. It totally sneaked up on me! I cannot be idle and desultory any longer! I have linens to wash and food to cook! A springform pan to acquire! The smell of damp dog to eradicate from my house (I advise, in anticipation of this eradication, that you consider buying stock in Febreeze)!

I also spent a few minutes yesterday looking up Thanksgiving recipes online, and found some nice ones, for some different dishes in addition to the old standbys, just for a change. One of them made me giggle; I can't remember what the recipe was for, now, but it called for three eggs, lightly eaten.

Another thing I've been doing with my time is, on Friday nights, going over to my mother's house and force-feeding her an hour's worth of BSG. She seems interested in the show, but my God, the explanations one is required to give in order to catch up someone who's only just become interested! My God! My God! Every commerical I just start talking about some random interconnection crucial to a proper understanding of the show's inner workings, and after several weeks my store of commecial-break lectures is still going strong. (A Challenge: try explaining the relationship between Six and Baltar in one commercial break.) I think this week I'll let my mother just take it in, and let her pick things up naturally, and see how she does with that. Because. Man, I'm exhausted from talking about BSG, frustrated at the dearth of complicated flow charts (a la that old Life in Hell love chart, does anyone remember that?) explaining the elaborate setup and connected story arcs. I suggest you addicts who sit around wondering how to productively kill time on the Internet get on that, okay?

And that's my allotment of stolen minutes for the day. I'm missing you, missing lots of the wonderful things you're saying in my absence, but thinking of you nonetheless. Next week is going to be a hectic one, and I'm not so sure there'll be extra time to sneak online, and so just in case, I'm wishing all of you Americans a happy Thanksgiving in advance, and everyone else a most excellent week.

Life in Hell!

Ebay... I've found that if I keep packaging materials close to hand, so I don't have to run to the store every time I need a box, it's not that bad. Much less trouble than a garage sale, anyway, and it does help to get rid of clutter. Tracking isn't too bad if you don't put too many things up at the same time. There's always Amazon Marketplace for books and DVDs, too, which I've had a lot of luck with, although you have to charge enough to make up for their piddly shipping allowances.

:O Akbar and Jeff! ♥♥♥♥!

Oooh, that's all very good advice. I've thought about selling things through half.com/amazon marketplace, too, and that might be the way to go. I'll have to think about it.

Thanks so much!

I think if you're sure you can actually make enough money to make selling things on eBay worthwhile, then, um, it's worthwhile (yes, it's tautology time here in minxland). I also use half.com for selling books and DVDs and I've been extremely happy with that. They reimburse for shipping costs.

Well, it's a tautology that makes perfect sense to me. I'm still planning on just donating things that I'm sure wouldn't make me any money on any online venue, but I'm kind of taken with the whole half.com idea now. Nice not to have to worry about compensating for shipping!
