Home again, home again.

Just a quick note to say that I've been scarce lately not by choice, but because my computer's hard drive, which has been behaving very badly for a couple of months, chose this weekend to give out completely. Now because I'm so obsessive about these things, I had available data backups at hand, my software (except the downloadable freeware) all ready to go, and most (if not quite all) of my drivers saved to disk, so I don't anticipate anything more challenging in store than a lot of tedious sitting around waiting for things to install, and a lot of that I did yesterday, so not all that much left, even. And I have the replacement hard drive up and running (and I had no idea how bad things had gotten until I had something spanking new and SO MUCH BETTER to compare the wobbly old HD to), and I am back on the internet, but I will be installing and configuring my little heart out for the next day or two, so I will yet be scarce, I'm afraid. But I've missed you. I do miss livejournal, when I'm away.

I was printing out pages for my Snape diorama when my hard drive met its maker*, and so wasn't able to work on it much this weekend. The time I'd meant to spend putting it together I ended up spending on hard-drive reload, instead; and so I'm not nearly as far along with it as I'd like. But it's all planned out in my head, and on paper as well, and maybe by the weekend I will have something to show those of you who want to see Snape against an Edward Gorey backdrop.
And if you are interested in this kind of thing, be sure to check out laurelwood's made-of-awesome rendering of Spinner's end. Among the diorama's many other wonderfulnesses, Snape looks so derangedly furious, just exactly as he's supposed to, that he makes me clutch my chest with joy every time I see him.

Date: 2006-09-26 03:52 am (UTC)Snape against an Edward Gorey backdrop? I can't wait! It'll be so cool! This was really a terrific idea you had, you know. Not only did I get to achieve that zen-like state of total absorption the whole weekend long, but now I get to look forward to yours and Amelia's. Thanks so much for the shout-out! "Derangedly furious" cracked me up. I wish you could have been around to hear his bald head talking to me while I was making the rest of him and his stuff. (Snarky voice provided by Brooke in her best English accent. What a nagging jerk Snape is- "You call that upholstered? I call it a lawn chair with a badly-cut felt cushion. You don't expect me to sit in that, do you, provided I ever get legs?" :D

Date: 2006-09-27 10:09 pm (UTC)I love the idea of Brooke sitting around watching you and making Snape comments to you as you work. Your family is quite, quite wonderful. :)
