I got the article today! I loved it (and I think it's the most I've ever read about Big Star in one place ever), and you were splendid to send it to me, and! New album coming out this summer! I don't know whether to be excited or nervous, and so, predictably, I'm both.
Thank you, thank you!
Much love,
me

Date: 2005-03-27 09:26 pm (UTC)I'm sure I'll buy the new album, but yeah, I'm excited and nervous at the same time as well.
Also! Chris Stamey is touring! (Do you like Chris Stamey?) For the first time in at least ten years! It's a good month for power pop.

No! I knew you'd seen him perform. My spouse saw him once in the late 80s and said it was awful ("A friend of mine said, 'don't go. just mail Chilton the eight dollars.' He was right."). But reviews I read of shows he's done in the last ten years were much more positive.
Here's a link to Chris Stamey (http://www.yeproc.com/artist_info.php?artistId=340). It doesn't look as if he's going any farther south than North Carolina, which is odd; you'd think he'd play Atlanta, at least.

Date: 2005-03-30 07:43 pm (UTC)Since he's from my neck of the woods, I've seen AC lots of times. And his performances can be really hit-and-miss (I've seen him walk onstage with a cheeseburger and fries, and things just deteriorated from there), but when he's on-form, he's terrific, and since he cleaned up, he's on-form a whole lot more.
I think you should write to Christ Stamey and suggest adding an Atlanta date. And I will do the same, and we will have achieved a bloc. Surely he will listen to us! And then I will not have to consider driving for six hours to see him.
