For the first time since I joined fandom, I'm tempted to go to a con (or actually, I'm almost always tempted during the con itself, when my friends, and other people I'd love to meet, are posting lovely stories and pics, but this is the first time I've ever been tempted in advance). And because I'm currently out of work and am not quite sure what my situation will be next spring, I'm sort of planning this far in advance, so I can make room in my life and save the money and so on.

I admit, one of the reasons I want to go to this one is that I haven't seen my ex-city in person since Katrina hit. But I also just want to meet up with people, maybe have the livejournal sleepover I proposed a long time ago. Is there anyone on my friendslist who's planning on going, or even interested?

You know, if it wasn't during the school year I'd be a lot more likely to go. It's just hard to leave my husband in charge when there's so much going on with the kids.

So, I'd say about 5 to 1 against. : / The 1 would probably only win out if *everyone* knew were going and there was nothing special going on with the kids those days.

For one thing, when you come back, the list of people on your flist that you have met in person is suddenly a lot longer, and that's always something I celebrate. ;-)

Hee! Yeah this idea had definitely occurred to me. For me, it wouldn't necessarily be a plus (having a big friendslist made me all anxious), but it would be something I'd be willing to risk, if it meant I got to meet my favorite people. Which, hahaha, it looks like I wouldn't anyway.

I must be some kind of fandom misanthrope because I've never been in the least tempted to attend a con. It's weird because I'm very sociable in RL.

I don't think it's weird at all -- you're always very careful to keep your RL seaparate from your fandom life, whereas mine melts together a little more.

I would very much like to visit NO again. I had some big ideas of going down to volunteer time and labor to help out, and I never got around to doing it and feel badly for that. :/ At this point, just seeing it again and sending it good vibes would be nice.

It's not the privacy issue to be honest. I just don't think I'd enjoy myself in that kind of environment. The activities sound deeply silly. I don't mean to be rude to people who like that kind of thing - each to their own, truly - but it's not my sort of thing.

I do keep fandom and RL separate, but there are a few people I'd love to meet and whom I'd trust enough to keep my identity private afterwards. You'd be top of the list, sweetie!

Aha! But you will perhaps notice that I didn't say anything like, I'm really looking forward to the seminar on Quidditch as Metaphor and the 5-for-1 fic exchange. I mean, I'd be in it to meet my fandom friends, and explore my city again. Maybe get a little swimming in. That's about it, really. :D

I would love to meet you too! If I'm ever within 200 miles of our neihborhood, I'll be bugging you about meeting up until you want to scream, or maybe just have me arrested.

Hi! I don't have a comment on the post, but I wanted to thank you for my Snape postcard! My Snapehead is so much fun to play with!
