The weird thing about this is that I'm very fond of each of these things, individually. The recipe, however, I find somewhat shall-we-say troubling.

SNICKERS® - APPLE SALAD

1 (8 oz.) container Cool Whip
3 apples, diced
3 regular size SNICKERS® candy bars, frozen

Mix together the Cool Whip and apples. Smash the SNICKERS® bars and add to the salad. (Best if you allow to stand for a little while before serving.)

For some reason, there have been a lot of recipes popping up on my flist today, so when I saw this post I was thinking, "Oh, another recipe." And then I really looked at it...

Heh. You've got to love any recipe that includes freezing and smashing one of the key ingredients. Still don't think I'll try this one at home, though. *g*

my favorite recipe involving smashing things is making peppermint ice cream out of plain vanilla by smashing peppermints with a hammer and mixing it up with the ice cream. Very cathartic -- and much more appealing than snickers-apple salad!

O.o

Where did you find that?

on cooks.com (http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=snickers+apple), while looking for a recipe for making a sour cream substitution. You will note from the search that three different people entered that recipe -- which begs the question, what in the world is going on here????

I'm not sure where the three came from; what I meant to say was many different.

I love how the recipe equates mixed Cool Whip (vague idea of what that is) and apples as 'salad'. Maybe my idea of salad has been limited somewhat, hmmm?

ahahahahaha, yeah -- even in the land of gelled "salads," this is stretching things a bit.

Cool Whip is, officially, "non-dairy whipped topping." It's sort of whipped-cream-ish, but because it's artificial, it has a shelf life of about ten years. Yum!

I meant to say, too, that I'm really glad to see that your father's recovering well enough to be grumpy. That's always a good sign. :D

I was thinking the same thing. But I guess anything served cold becomes "salad." You know, like when you eat a big bowl of spaghetti bolognese, it's all carby and bad for you, but if you have chilled penne doused with mayonnaise and a few chopped olives and tomatoes, it becomes pasta salad, and you know salads are healthy!

Gosh, that sounds good. But instead of the Cool Whip, I'd use ice cream, and I'd replace the apples with slabs of pound cake. Of course, to still qualify it as a salad, I suppose I'd have to serve it in one of those giant fried tortilla bowls.

I read this in my inbox and giggled for about five straight minutes!

You know, I hate to admit it, but if the apples were sour, and that were real whipped cream instead of Cool Whip, I would be all over that.

You should try it -- in the name of scientific experimentation, of course -- and report back!
