1. The narrator in Fight Club claims that you can swallow a pint of your own blood before getting sick. I have to wonder, this morning, if there's some similar statistic available for phlegm. I believe that have now reached it, though, whatever it is. God knows how much I've swallowed since Thursday, which is when I began my current regimen of sleeping every single minute I didn't absolutely have to be somewhere else and it became obvious that my immune system was trying to fight off a cold. It seemed yesterday morning that my immune system had succeeded, and I had no reason to doubt this, because ladies and gentlemen, my immune system absolutely rocks; except that by 2pm it was clear that my immune system had been giving its little all for one last effort that was going to fail.

To make a long story short: I have a cold. I'm sorry I haven't been around too much lately.

2. The house is mine, barring any unexpected nastiness in tomorrow's inspection. I won't relate the trials of the past few days, which involved so much stress that my immune system--normally, you will remember, the hardiest and most devoted of servants--gave up the ghost, I had two near-breakdowns which involved me actually raising my voice (which almost never happens), and my blood pressure tested the highest by far that it's ever been.

3. I went to the doctor on Thursday, for matters unrelated to my current cold (sorry to keep bringing it up, but you must understand that I, being normally disgustingly healthy, am a huge baby about these things, and I NEED YOU TO FEEL TERRIBLY SORRY FOR ME). In fact, it was just me finally switching doctors from the one who was driving me to drink on account of the fact that she was always three hours behind and never seemed to listen because she had republican politics on her mind.

Is it wrong to have a crush on your new doctor? Because I think I do. I was in and out of that office in a little over an hour, and that included filling out about a ream of new-patient paperwork, a 45-minute conversation with a live doctor--who, you will be glad to know, is a democrat--a trip to the lab so they could draw blood, and an honest-to-god apology when he kept me waiting for ten minutes.

When you consider that I have read entire books, from start to finish, while waiting for my last doctor to see me, and Thursday I barely got ten pages read, you may understand why I am crushing. Consideration always makes me swoon, man; I am a sucker for it.

4. We are having a completely weird 36-hour warm spell here. Yesterday it was typical November, this morning is balmy, and by mid-Monday the temperature will be dropping again. I'm convinced that this is somehow my fault, but really, probably it is not.

5. I have a wonderful new haircut that probably doesn't look that different to anybody but me, but I can tell the difference like whoa.

6. It is 8:15 am. Time for a nap.

7. Have a lovely Sunday, everyone.

Yes, congrats on house, doctor and haircut! When do you think the house will close? By Christmas? : )

I'm impressed you went and got a new doctor. I need to do the same. I hate going to the doctor so much I've been putting it off.

If everything goes as planned (to which I say HA!), we'll close on December 15, now. It's been pushed back because of all those pesky delays. So yes! By Christmas! Maybe! :D:D:D

You really should find a doctor you like! It's amazing, the difference it makes.

I completely believe in the power of The Jinx, and so I am just going to watch you and Bachelor #2 with a wary eye until you no longer have to preface your sentences with a "Barring ..." but finding a good doctor is a truly wonderful thing, and so my wholehearted congratulations on that.

Hot tea! Spicy foods! Peppermints! These things will make you feel better! Take it from one of your Northern friends for whom the cold is not an event but a lifestyle. Feel better.

I am determined to feel better! The spicy foods are a little beyond me, I've discovered, but the tea and mints I'm down with, and they do seem to be doing me some good.

oops prematurely posted

To continue: After we signed off, I got started on Mirabelle's story, and just kept reading and kept reading and I've caught up and want more! A perfect remedy to a cold, I think--it even took my mind off the fact that I ended up having to sleep sitting up! :D

Oh good - I figured you needed a distraction and a fic with such delicious UST would do the job. Hope you feel better today, sweetie.

I wish I had a "Dick Cheney is love" color bar.

You need matzoh ball soup, is what you need. I wish I were there to make you some.

How you taunt me with your warm spells. It is 11 degrees here and there is a foot of snow on the ground now. I continue to be fascinated by the way that sunlight melts snow even when it is below freezing. And also by the way that falling snow will sparkle in sunlight, like little flecks of opalescent glitter.

I breathlessly await details of your inspection. But I am coming to visit you, house or no.

Actually, scratch that. I wish I had a "Dick Cheney is hate" color bar.

Oh, I feel so envious of you and your snow! It is raining and raining here, and if only it were about thirty degrees colder--but alas. Best not to dream of things I can't have.

I DO FEEL TOTALLY SORRY FOR YOU. AT LEAST PHLEGM DOESN'T ADD INSULT TO INJURY BY BEING, OH, I DON'T KNOW, FULL OF TRANS-FAT OR SOMETHING!

I hope you feel better soon. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a nice, uneventful house inspection tomorrow; that in itself will probably be valuable towards restoring your typical peasant hardiness.

And no, it's not weird to crush on a doctor who's courteous and personable. Maybe it should be, but such qualities are so rare in the medical profession that when one encounters them, once can't help but get all blushy and charmed and stuff.

Man, you're not kidding about the trans-fat thing, either! I was perfectly horrified at the doctor's office to see what my weight was, and it's food diaries and no trans-fat at all for ages, for me. -_-

No inspection--see above--but I'm counting on my peasant hardiness to see me through anyway. Colds never stick with me for too long, because I'm not fertile ground for that sort of thing.

Your card is in the mail, but I also have a little present for you that I forgot to send along. It shall be in the mail forthwith. Or at least, you know, when I get off my behind and et to the post office.
