  1. [livejournal.com profile] bowdlerized definitely knows this one, but others may be able to help out too. There is a site where you can convert mp3s to ringtones for your phone, yes? I can't remember the URL, now that I've actually decided which tones I want to use, and was hoping someone could help out.

  2. My latest house crush is just off the town square of a little town about 20-30 minutes from Macon (depending on how fast you're willing to drive). It's 75 years old, with big rooms, (seems to be) in decent shape, sits on 2/3 of an acre of ground, has a fenced yard, is well within my budget. The only thing that keeps me from dancing around in glee is that in that fenced yard is a swimming pool. Now, I love to swim and all, but I'm kind of O_o at the idea of having to keep everything going. Has anyone on my flist ever had primary care of a pool? What do you have to say about the experience? All I can remember about the one house with a pool we lived in is that my father ever after refused to have anything to do with one.

My sister serendipitously called just as I was reading your post, so I grilled her about Pool Upkeep. (They moved into a house with a pool in late June.)

She says it takes her spouse about half an hour a week to do the chemical-y stuff (which, apparently, can be purchased easily at Walmart- no special Pool Supply store needed!), and any algae-scraping or surface-skimming that needs to be done. He's had pools all his life and says it's much easier and more streamlined nowadays to care for them than it was back when he was a kid.

Julie was unable to furnish me with precise "how much does it add to your electrical bill to have those pumps and filter thingies going all the time" stats, but she says you don't have to run them as much in winter, of course, and they never heat the pool at all because it gets enough sun to make it bearably unfrigid most of the time.

Woo! Think of the rockin' 4th of July parties you could throw! ;D Have you seen the inside of your latest house crush yet?

Oooh, thank you SO MUCH. I wasn't as worried about the expense as I was about, say, causing the house to collapse through my unwillingness to spend more than 10 hours a week on the whole enterprise, so this is just the info I needed. Although I guess I should be worried about the expense too, now I come to think of it.

I have not seen my crush! (Or at least, I made a little drive-by road trip at lunch yesterday, and so I saw the outside, and how it was situated.) I sort of wanted an answer to that vexing swimming pool question before I looked at the inside and (possibly) fell irrevocably in love.

Want to see? (http://homepics.realtor.com/image2/http/middlegeorgia/listings/large/078/78391.jpg)

And if I were to invite you to my July 4 party (not to mention Memorial Day! And Labor Day! The swimming season is long, in the Deep South), would you come?

I love this house! I was just remarking to Brooke the other day how fond I am of the little "step up from the sidewalk" mini-flight of stairs that some houses have, and this one does!

I will be very curious to hear what you think of the inside. Wouldn't it be great if there'd only been one owner, and there was all still original cabinetry and no fake wood paneling in the hallway and all that other great stuff?

And of course I'd come to your 4th of July party! Would there be cannonball contests?
