One thing I forgot to mention was that I dragged [livejournal.com profile] bowdlerized to a drive-in movie on Saturday night, because I discovered recently that such a theater still exists in Atlanta and I've been so enraptured by the idea that nothing else would do but to whisk my unsuspecting friend off to see a movie that neither of us had a great deal of interest in, just because IT WAS A DRIVE-IN OMG.

Under the right circumstances, it would've been pretty excellent. The weather might have been a little cooler, just to oblige us. There might have been grass instead of asphalt; I was expecting the grass, I suspect because my memories of sitting in an actual drive-in have been somehow mixed in with multiple viewings of Grease and also summer movies in a park in Baton Rouge in the late '90s.

Also, ideally, we might have been able to hear the freaking dialogue. That would have been nice. As it was, though, the reception on my car's radio (you tune in to a certain frequency on your car radio to listen) was so bad that we were mostly better off turning the volume way down and then sticking our heads out of the window to listen to the sound coming from neighboring cars. Which we did, periodically, often at the same time, so that we must have looked something like a big cuckoo clock, or maybe a couple of synchronized prairie dogs, poking our heads out of the car windows and then back in, searching for a truer sound.

It never occurred to me, during all that squirming and searching, to try pulling the car up, like, six inches to improve reception. So we sat through the whole movie, completely missed about a quarter of the dialogue, probably had headaches from concentrating way harder on Just Like Heaven than it was ever meant to be concentrated upon, and at the end of the movie I started the car and put it into gear, and almost the second we started moving the reception cleared up.

Oh well. Next time I'll know. Anyone up for a double feature of Emily Rose and The Cave?

Our local drive-in has just been sold.
Soon to be 170 townhouses.

*sad face*

Yeah, because the world definitely needs more townhouses. :/

Sometimes the march of progress seems like anything but, doesn't it? I think you need to drive out there one last time. Drink a toast to it. Or maybe eat a box of Sno-Caps in its name.
