constance: (Come waste time with me.)

A while ago--a couple of years now--I was part of a community that made top-five lists. Some of my current friendslist was involved, in fact, and I think fondly of this community, often. Man, we top-fived the hell out of everything, and had a terrific time doing it. Someone posted a theme, and then we all ponied up our lists, and it was one of the best times of my spotty career as a blogger.

So it was with ineffable delight that I saw this meme tonight on [livejournal.com profile] resonant8's journal:

Ask me for "top five" lists of pretty much anything, and I will list you my top five of that thing or things.

Which is sort of the exact opposite of that old, long-dead community, but I was stricken with longing anyway. Don't you want to play? Say you do. Come ooooonnnnn.

concert experiences
  1. Son Volt, Baton Rouge: Son Volt were incredibly popular in Baton Rouge, probably because of "Windfall," and they played a lot, and they were all fabulous shows, full to the brim with frat boys who used to piss me off because they would totally have made fun of Jay Farrar in high school. Okay I will shut up now.

  2. Robyn Hitchcock, New Orleans: I saw him a couple of times in concert, but the time I'm thinking of was in a little dive bar in midsummer. It was incredibly hot, there was no air conditioning, and we were up by the stage where there was a very slight breeze, and it was a terrific concert and Robyn Hitchcock was on crack, he just never shut up, and he played a lot of Soft Boys songs and I loved him for that.

  3. Big Star and the Posies, New Orleans: This was a New Year's Eve reunion concert, probably my one and only chance to see one of my favorite bands (mostly) reunited. And the Posies as a bonus! Who could ask for more?

  4. The Fleshtones, New Orleans: Does anyone besides me remember The Fleshtones? Anyone remember Peter Zaremba? They used to give annual Mardi Gras concerts, and we went to a bunch of them, and they all just completely rocked in every way.

  5. Steve Earle, Little Rock: The first and best concert I ever saw him play, and he puts on a pretty damned good live show in general, but these were the days back when he first cleaned up, back before he was so political, and he just rocked. And the concert venue was completely surreal, dark and full of huge black-light paintings of cowboys and cacti, so added bonus points for that.

Snape moments (NO I AM NOT TOTALLY OBSESSED OR ANYTHING)
SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!!!

  1. Harry and Snape in the Forbidden Forest, Snape barely containing his anguish and fury. I totally agree with you: that is now my all-time favorite. OH MAN IT BROKE MY HEART INTO A MILLION PIECES ON THE FLOOR.

  2. Sitting in bed, bored, flicking at flies with his wand.

  3. Totally behaving like a fifteen year old and smashing Harry's potions as revenge for Harry's insrusion into his pensieve instead of behaving like a grownup and using Harry's regret to his advantage and building some kind of truce between them ahahaha okay I am clearly never going to forgive Snape for this. Still top five material though.

  4. In the Shrieking Shack, completely pissed off and still determined to save Harry, Hermione and Ron despite themselves.

  5. And oh, this breaks my heart in a different way from #1. Being a loner and an outcast, doctoring his textbooks, and calling himself The Half-Blood Prince. :(( !
