A few days ago, laurelwood linked to this article and asked people to talk about sleeping with books. So I did, there in her livejournal, but I've been playing with the idea ever since, in association with, like, everything I've ever loved, and I can't seem to stop and I want to get this down so maybe it will go away. (And I think it'll help if you play, too.)

So here you go:

Four TV series

Sherlock - You only hooked up with him in the first place because he reminded you of a favorite old college boyfriend, but he turns out, surprisingly and delightfully, to be much more skilled and subtle than Mark One. (Not to mention prettier.) After spending a lost weekend with him, you are ill-advisedly infatuated.

Supernatural - He's not your usual type at all, maybe not too bright and a little rough around the edges, but he has these unexpected moments of sublimity, in bed and out of it, that make you weak in the knees. Your girlfriends fall into two camps over him: they either see the appeal immediately, or they never will.

Mad Men - He's cool and sophisticated and out of your league, and you both know it; but you're better in bed than he is, looser, more relaxed and less selfish, and you both know that too.

Deadwood - His dirty talk is fucking spectacular. And you're not even into dirty talk.

Three novels

Persuasion - You were never into lavish romanticism until he came along, and it's possible that you'll revert to type as soon as this is over, but for now, you're ravished every single time.

Infinite Jest - He's brilliant. And he won't. Stop. Talking. It's mesmerizing, but so hideously distracting that you're considering investing in a ball-gag.

The Yiddish Policemen's Union - he's wry and damaged and self-deprecating (in other words, exactly your type), and for all that you think you understand him, he still manages to surprise you on a regular basis. The yarmulke is surprisingly erotic.

Two films

A Secret Garden - His extravagant mannerisms and overt dramatics embarrass you when you're out in public together, but when you're alone, he's scaled-down and deliciously attentive, and he finds and presses your buttons with alarming ease.

Master and Commander - He seems rough-and-ready on the surface, but he's actually quiet and thoughtful and treats you like a princess. You're gratified or disappointed by his gentle nature, in turns.

One Videogame

EchoBazaar - The head games make you want to kick him to the curb on a regular basis, and he can be frustratingly repetitive, but the sex is crazy good. You keep thinking, okay, one more night, but then that's it. For real.

The yarmulke is surprisingly erotic.

This entry makes me squeal and clap my hands like a gleeful child. I can already tell I'm going to need to do this later, for basically every book I've ever read.

Forgot to come back here and say: your random-beloved-places idea sounds very fun! You've talked before about "spatial crushes" (a feeling with which I totally identify), so I'm sure you'd be really good at those.
