Now that I am feeling a little reassured as to the relative safety of my particular London friends, I'd just like to say, in a more general way, that I am continually amazed both at the terrible things that people are capable of doing to each other and at the astounding way we're capable of pulling together in a crisis. As sorry and sick as I am tonight, I'm also full of admiration for the zeitgeist and determined resiliency of the British people.

We Americans can only hope to be half as dignified and mature as you've been today, in the future crises I'm sure are coming.
