(13) down blankets

constanceSo one of the things Gilly destroyed, right after I first dognapped her and was still trying to crate her when I left the house, which OMG big mistake, was a down blanket. It was on the floor getting ready to be cleaned, and she chewed through a piece of her crate, managed to pull the entire F/Q blanket inside with her (through an opening about the size of my hand, and you know, my hands ain't all that big) and shredded it until my bedroom was adrift in down. I was finding down weeks later. In fact, when I rearranged my room a few weeks ago, I found more down. Down is pretty insidious, you guys.
Anyway. It was coming up on summer, so I didn't worry about replacing the blanket right away; and it was an especially long and hot summer, so I didn't even think about it until a couple of weeks ago when the temperature suddenly plummeted thirty degrees and I was stuck shivering for a few nights, on the chilly side even with Leory cuddled up beside me.
So I bought a new one this week, and used it for the first time last night, and oh man. It's so light and pretty that looking at it, you wouldn't think it could do the job, but it unequivocally does the job and then some. It's astonishing, the difference that a little figured Egyptian cotton and a few strips of satin and some bird fluff makes, but last night I was terrifically cozy, and every time I moved the blanket gave the tiniest whispery ruffle, just reminding me that it was there, and I think I probably fell asleep smiling.
