dancing about architecture
May. 5th, 2010 10:42 amYou wanna hear something funny? I know you do. The funny thing is this: ever since I posted my floor plan for Pooh and Piglet, I've gotten some interested email, and I don't mean "interested" as in "properly feedback-y, considering the nature of the enterprise," I mean "interested" as in "professionally interested in the possibilities presented in this teeny-house design."
And I know, I know, okay, that this is just spam mail, and spam mail's what happens when you post a valid email address on a searchable, publicly-available website offering what appears to be a quantifiable (if wholly fictional) service. But I still can't help the little starry-eyed thrill I get every time one of those messages lands in my inbox. I am all involuntarily giddy and excited over the idea of designing tiny, super-efficient living spaces, over the additional idea of the apparent existence of a market for these services. And I do like my job, my career, the life I've chosen for myself, I really do, but the idea! The idea of doing something that I not only like but that I am actively passionate about, of earning money for something that I do for fun, for free! It is pretty intoxicating. It's been a while since I felt that.
I am totally feeling, right now, that I should be writing those spammers little thank-you notes. And in the meantime, if you're looking to design your tiny living space, I am clearly the woman for the job, right? Right?

Date: 2010-05-11 02:45 pm (UTC)I suppose there are people who aren't interested in stuff like this, but I'm always much more receptive to the people who are.
(well, you may think it's funny that I like this stuff is a real song lyric, by the way! It's from "Strychnine" by The Fuzztones, and it really was playing when I was writing this post. Funny how these things happen, sometimes.)
