I have found a new home to love.

I went this afternoon running errands (a trip to Lowe's, where the edges of the hurricane glanced over us just long enough for me to load my car up in pouring rain) and decided on my way home to drive through a neighborhood which had a lovely house for sale which was a little bit outside my budget but still possible, provided I stopped eating out and started eating beans and rice, and that sort of thing. It is lovely, and the neighborhood is lovely, and even more than that house I love this house down the street, which is, I grant you, kind of messy in this tax assessor's photo, but which is standing empty and adorable now.

I want this house. I haven't called to find out anything about it yet, but I feel the house lust in me rising. Rising. Riiiising.

:::

I was going to write more, about religion in the workplace, and about birthdays and conversations in the car, but my weekend has so far consisted of doing fuck-all, and I have to get busy. I'll try to write these entries later, and I know you'll be waiting for the moment I decide to post, but I couldn't let the afternoon go by without announcing that I have turned my fickle attentions to a new object of beauty.

Oops my parents are here :O bye

Wow! Both of those properties are utterly delightful, but I agree that the red brick is the more charming of the two, in a sort of witchy, fairy-tale way. Here's hoping that it's cheap-ish. I want you to have it.

I have to say that the idea of living in a fairy-tale cottage makes me all starry-eyed.

Beans and rice freeze well so you can make big pots of them and ladle them into meal-sized freezer bag portions! What the heck- I'll make them FOR you so that you can put all your energy into nabbing one of these two darlingdarlingdarling houses. Perhaps I can even learn to darn socks, if that would help.

Also, dammit, I wrote myself a vague note about your birthday coming up super speedy-like, and then just as vaguely lost it. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was splendid and that you'll get around to mentioning how you spent it, and that there was some sort of gooey pastry and festive presentiness about it.

Oh, I did have a splendid birthday, thank you! I took the day off work and got my hair repaired and a pedicure and spent a gift certificate at Pier 1 and went to dinner with my parents in a restaurant with yummy food that looked like Rachel Ashwell (is that her name? The Shabby Chic person?) herself designed it.

My mother had the gooey pastry, one of those triple-chocolate layer cake thingies. I had creme brulee, and though I was very tempted by the Chunky Monkey cheesecake, I believe I made the right choice.

We may never know--but it might almost be worth calling the real estate agent just to find out!

EEEE! That second house is absolutely adorable.

Beans and rice aren't so bad, you know. ;)

:O Why did I not see this comment?

I agree, though. Beans and rice are tasty, and they also happen to be one of about five things I can cook all by my very own self without a recipe.
