pack and get dressed

Oh my, it feels good to be done. I have only this left to say about this past week: with any luck, I will get fired before I have to live through another one like it. Oh, and this too: Texans, they are funny about hotel decor. They are all about brown. They are all about paneling. They must never have a counter plain when fake marble will do. But their bathtubs are pretty fucking comfy.
I have to repack, I guess, but I am going to put that off for a little while to waste time, just because I can.
1. Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
I'm not at home to count, but I'd say a fair number. Omitting homemade videos and downloads, about 30 videos, and about 40-50 DVDs.
2. The last film I bought:
Hmm. It was a while ago. Maybe Sex, Lies, and Videotape? I think so. Next on my list is The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. It came out this week, but I haven't had a chance to get to the store to get it yet.
3. The last film I watched: Office Space.
4. Five films I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Wings of Desire - This is the most unequivocally beautiful film I've ever seen. I don't see it too much--I keep meaning to own it but somehow never do--but it holds the world's dark magic for me.
Spirited Away - I have a screenshot from this film on my desktop. It is a comfort movie, for me, a movie that feels like an embrace.
The Royal Tenenbaums - I have written essays about Wes Anderson and the reworking of The American Tragedy, but the truth is just that my affection for this one is like my love for Harry Potter: visceral and instinctive rather than rational.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - I remember putting off seeing the first movie for ages and finally breaking down and seeing it in New Orleans with my friend J, thinking that we might as well see it before it left the theaters. We didn't go into it with any kind of expectations, but we came out of it dazzled, and I've been dazzled ever since. Really, if I had to differentiate between the films, or separate them, I think I'd say I loved The Two Towers best, but I think of them as a unit, really.
Magnolia - among its many other wonders and startlements, it's the only movie I ever saw Tom Cruise in that I didn't think, that part should have gone to X because he would've been so much better.
4a. Five episodes from TV shows that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Individual episodes? Er. Let's see. I'm just drawing a blank here. But most of them are probably Simpsons episodes, from at least two or three seasons ago.

Your brain: 60% interpersonal, 100% visual, 120% verbal, and 120% mathematical! |
Congratulations on being 400% smart! Actually, on my test, everyone is. The above score breaks down what kind of thinking you most enjoy doing. A score above 100% means you use that kind of thinking more than average, and a score below 100% means you use it less. It says nothing about how good you are at any one, just how interested you are in each, relatively. A substantial difference in scores between two people means, conclusively, that they are different kinds of thinkers. Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Still, I offer the following advice, which I think is obvious:

I am glad you are getting the hell out of Texas. I do not blame you.

Date: 2005-05-14 03:43 am (UTC)The Life Aquatic is my favorite film since Eternal Sunshine! I'm so happy it's finally out! It seems that mainstream movies come out on DVD sooner and sooner, anymore, while the sort of indie-mainstream hybrids I tend to be fond of are still taking the requisite six months. It isn't fair; I am going to write a letter to Wes Anderson and see if he can't do something about this.
