Design porn is better, sometimes, than the more traditional sorts of porn. For example, on a slow day at work you can unashamedly surf design porn without getting fired for it. Here are some of the things I've been loving on lately, divided into categories for your convenience.

Things I Can Do Myself and Might Just Try (and You Should Try Them Too):
pretty, reusable shopping bags
art on Necco Wafers
calligraphy graffiti
mailable art

Things I Totally Can't Do But Wish I Could:
filigreed tools
nails and toothpicks
driveable chalkboard

Things I Want To Buy:
strokable folders
fish tote

Things I Want To Play With:
a metric ton of super-cute computer games
visible pinball machine

Things That Don't Really Fit into My Other Arbitrary Categories but Which I Adored:
The Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies
a racy ad
other people's refrigerators

Those filigreed tools are just incredible. The contrast of material and texture is stunning. The more I see patterns like that, the more I am tempted to put my money where my mouth is and get that lace tattoo on my back. Ahh.

Calligraphy graffiti! Leonardo's self-portrait in nails! Those are very very cool. Design porn=yay.

I could spend whole days looking at the things other people think to create! I agree about the filigree tools, too -- it's hard to take your eyes from them, isn't it?

That new teal dress you have would show off a lace tattoo on your back nicely, don't you think? :O

I know! It's frustrating, but, you know, just sometimes maybe you say to yourself, Hey, I could do that, and then your whole working area is a mess and you emerge triumphantly with a cake or a drawing or a house plan or earrings or something, and it's wonderful.

*tilts head* Oooh. It SO would. *talks self into it slowly*

I had such a blast looking at all of these. The girls thank you, by the way, for the metric ton of super-cute computer games. My favorite is throwing yo-yos at crabs. As for the Necco art, I couldn't resist. (http://pics.livejournal.com/laurelwood/pic/00098pzr/) It's not exactly art, but still. :D I'd have had a bigger canvas if half of them hadn't broken.

Hey, I'm SO sorry it took so long to reply to this!

I very much had Brooke and Zoe in mind when I posted the link to the games, so I'm pleased to know they liked them! My favorite's the one where you jump and make the bugs fly away, but I love so many of them!

And OMG your art project! I've saved it to my hard drive, I'm so delighted! I will be able to save it forever now! Much like your bento collage (do you remember making that?), which I still have on my refrigerator, even now that the black construction paper has faded to brown. I love your art so much. THANK YOU! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 !

All those games are so cute. I wish I had better hand/eye coordination so that I could enjoy the graphics even more.

That makes my whole day to know that there's a piece of my decorated construction paper fading to brown on your refrigerator. Refrigerator placement is high honor! I'm glad you liked that and this silly thing. I have a much bigger appreciation for the Necco artist you linked to. Those suckers are so dusty that drawing on them with a fine-tipped marker is really a challenge.
