Open letter
Jul. 25th, 2006 03:04 pmDear Woman in Gigantic Navigator,
I think it's really admirable -- I really do -- that you pulled off the road to talk on the phone. Even if I didn't loathe people who drive around chatting away on principle -- which I totally do -- I've been burned enough by negligent phone-drivers (cut off, nearly sideswiped, nearly broadsided, etc.) that I'm furious at them on sight. So the fact that you pulled into a parking lot to talk just makes me happy.
May I make one tiny suggestion, though? Don't stop the second you're off the road. Parking lots are ingeniously designed, you see, so that one generally may pull out of regular traffic flow before stopping. And though pulling off the road, stopping in the entryway, and blocking traffic is undeniably better than barrelling down the road at 50 mph, when you're talking on the phone, pulling into an actual parking space would be even better.
Perhaps you feel that I'm nitpicking, here. Perhaps I am nitpicking. But really, that first empty parking space was about 10 feet away from you. How hard would it have been to pull into it? See what I'm saying?
Yours most cordially,
Cammy
