It's one of those nights where you're sitting at your computer catching up on the weekend news, and the dog starts making hey-lady-I-really-need-to-go-out-like-now noises at the door, and you look up and realize that it's become unexpectedly dark in the past little while and you're sitting in a puddle of LCD light and every other light in the house is out.

Darkness can sneak up on you, even in spring.

But now the dogs have been taken out, and there are lights on, and I am reconnected to the world, coming down from my weekend high. If there's anything better than a having a stormy weekend as an excuse to stay inside and read Georgette Heyer and watch favorite films, I can't think of it just at the moment, unless maybe it's having the stormy weekend and the books and the movies without the HE MUST BE KEPT QUIET AND IF HE STARTS COUGHING OR HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING CALL ME IMMEDIATELY HERE'S MY HOME NUMBER I AM NOT KIDDING ringing in my ears. That part, the part where every time Leory sighed everything in the house stopped while I determined whether it was just a sigh or whether his lungs were disintegrating from the dead worms inside him, that part was not so great. But everything else was, after my nonstop couple of weeks.

So far, they're all sighs, but we're being vigilant so that we can make the phone call if we have to, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we don't have to call. He seems just fine, and I'm hoping he stays that way.
