Why-I-love-my-house post # 327

Last night I got home just as twilight was dissolving, and there were a few fireflies in my front yard. And fireflies are much beloved by me, and so I sat in my car for a few minutes and watched them, but it wasn't until I was unlocking my front door that it occurred to me that my big overgrown back yard would probably have more opportunities for firefly-watching, so once I'd gotten inside and taken out the dog, I walked out on my back deck to see.

And I was right; in fact, I've never seen anything like it. My back yard was shimmering with fireflies, from the ground all the way to the tops of the trees, and I sat out until the light show ended for the night.

I wish you could have seen how astonishing and resplendent it was.

Fireflies are one thing I miss about not living in the east any more. Oh, we have a few here and there, but I've never seen them in town, and never in the kind of mass lightshow that I did in Maryland.

(Also, flowering trees. Dogwoods, magnolias, and so on. Spring in the southeast is unbeatable for sheer loveliness!)

You would love it right now, then--between the fireflies and the blossoms, it's postively, blissfully beautiful right now.

Ahh, I love fireflies. We get them here, but not this early and not in such abudance.

I've never seen them like this, either, in all my years. It's very satisfying. :D

I...LOVE...FIREFLIES!

I guess I will have to come back! :D

:O You most certainly will! I will book the fireflies for you in advance.

I wish I could see how astonishing and resplendent it was, too. I'm like a slogan out of the Christian Children's Fund: "Poor little Laurel has never seen a firefly."

What, never? Really? Laurel, you are missing out on one of the greatest pleasures in life, and I mean this sincerely. Hie yourself to a firefly-friendly zone immediately, just to see!
