Why-I-love-my-house post # 327
Last night I got home just as twilight was dissolving, and there were a few fireflies in my front yard. And fireflies are much beloved by me, and so I sat in my car for a few minutes and watched them, but it wasn't until I was unlocking my front door that it occurred to me that my big overgrown back yard would probably have more opportunities for firefly-watching, so once I'd gotten inside and taken out the dog, I walked out on my back deck to see.
And I was right; in fact, I've never seen anything like it. My back yard was shimmering with fireflies, from the ground all the way to the tops of the trees, and I sat out until the light show ended for the night.
I wish you could have seen how astonishing and resplendent it was.

(Also, flowering trees. Dogwoods, magnolias, and so on. Spring in the southeast is unbeatable for sheer loveliness!)
