random data roundup

Okay, I just wrote three paragraphs about how much I loathe Jane Pratt, editor of Jane and erstwhile editor of Sassy, and how happy I am that she is retiring (and I say this as someone who does not actually care about Jane one way or the other but just wants no news of Jane Pratt ever again); and this segued into another three-paragraph diatribe against Elizabeth Wurtzel and Ayelet Waldman, who I hate for exactly the same reasons as I hate Ms. Pratt, and all their whiny self-indulgent obtuseness-disguised-as-insight, and how as a group they give women writers a bad name, and that as much as I want to respect their achievements, I just can't because--oops, okay, that's enough of that, damn it.

I'm trying to say that I realized how crazy I sounded--and just look how well I succeeded in conveying that revelation--and so I erased all six paragraphs, and will be taking down the Shrine of Spleen when I get home, and will instead just say that there's no word yet on whether we'll have to be tested for tuberculosis. After a weekend during which we increasingly relaxed as we didn't get any worrying news, we are all back to biting our nails again.

:::

Also I should mention that despite everything I may have said to the contrary, and I may have said lots to the contrary, I may be getting another dog.

I may not, though.

:::

Also also, a thing which just entirely delighted me.

Any time you change your mind and want to trash Ayelet Waldman, I'm there for you. Are there still actually people left who give a shit about anything Elizabeth Wurtzel says or does? She's failed to kill herself a thousand and seven times, she's shown her tits to the entire free world, she's made 9/11 all about herself--all that's left is reality television.

Ah, yes, it does actually true that Elizabeth Wurtzel is finally, finally irrelevant; we couldn't give copies of her book about Ritalin addiction away (almost literally--we marked them down to a dollar and even then had to throw most of them away). Still, I will hate her forever. I will never forgive her for Bitch, a book that could have been excellent in hands that weren't, you know, hers.

Ayelet Waldman. Maybe her star has dimmed as well? I haven't seen her on Salon--or elsewhere in the world--for ages.

Maybe she electrocuted herself trying to change a lightbulb. One can only hope.

AHAHAHA I saw earlier today that Jane Pratt retired and immediately thought of you! :D

I hope you are not consumptive!

Also, OMG dog?!?!?

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH How embarrassing that I have written about J.P. that much! Maybe now that she is unimportant, you will hear less from me about her.

I probably am not. Rumor got a little crazy today (one of several floating around was that the person we suspect has it made the whole thing up, which whatever. I am just waiting to hear what to do next.

Dog, yes! One of my coworkers has a family member moving in who's allergic to dogs, and they're going to see if they can keep her, but I am standing by should the allergies cause trouble. Because, you see, I am a pushover.

It is a very cute dog, though. Little! I have never had a little dog of my very own before! I never thought I'd have one!

AHAHAHAHAHAH, I really do love Ben Stiller.

We found a mood theme much like that a couple of years ago of David Boreanaz of Angel fame, looking broody/constipated, and it also was delightful. Speaking of which, a Clive Owen mood theme along the same lines would thrill me outrageously.

Yes! Clive Owen would be an excellent candidate for this sort of thing! Still, though, Ben Stiller and Blue Steel are my very, very favorites.
