Big old jet airliner
Feb. 28th, 2005 08:52 pmWay back in 1998--I think it was 1998--I went to the UK to spend a couple of weeks backpacking, and I flew and set up a frequent flyer account and got thousands of points, and then never cashed those points in, either because I didn't have enough to do what I wanted to do, or because they weren't accepting points for the flight I was booking, or, and this is the big one, because other airlines were cheaper and I flew them instead. And the points just sat there for all this time doing nothing, until the airline got tired of holding them for me and said, use 'em or lose 'em, ma'am, in the next ten days.
Since I wasn't going anywhere in those next ten days, I decided to spend the points instead on magazine subscriptions, which were what you got to spend them on if you didn't spend them on tickets, and got up to, I believe, seventeen before I realized that I was never in a million years going to read seventeen magazines a month, and plus I'd run out of magazines I would actually be willing to spend time reading, and so I found a way to donate most of my points to charity, but you can only donate them in 5000 mile increments, and that left me with almost 5000 extra points. Which I spent on magazines, six, if I recall, and I got the first one today.
What I'm trying to say is this: if, for the next few months, my posts about the contents of, say, National Geographic increase dramatically, here is your reason.
:::
Also, for those of you who are interested, last night I opened up my word processor to play around, and ended up with the first couple of pages of a story that was going to be Harry/Sirius gen with Remus/Sirius backstory, but which seems to be turning into Harry/Remus slash, with little bits of Sirius thrown in. Whether it ends up being postable or not, an Actual Story! For the first time in months and months!
Well, I was excited, anyway.
