constance: (*sings in rain*)
Rain is still scarce around these parts. We've had a few storms lately, but water restrictions are still in place, and what rain we get gets soaked up pretty quickly. I guess it's therefore unsurprising that we now treat a rainstorm the way we (as hardcore Southerners) are wont to treat a snowstorm: with delighted awe at this rare and beautiful thing. Today the sky darkened and the wind blew and we all took time to walk to the front windows and take in the threatening skies; and then when it actually started to pour down nothing would do but for us -- and by "us" I mean the entire office -- to run out to the warehouse and stand in the loading doorway watching it and listening to it hit the metal roof (which is incidentally one of my all-time favorite sounds) and marvelling at it and, you know, just breathing.

I'm not sure I ever recognized before today that rain really does have a distinct smell. It smells fabulous.
