I think I've fallen in love with my new company all over again.

When I first arrived here, we were just beginning to shop around for less expensive health care coverage, and over the past three months, quotes have been requested and received, forms have been filled out, and by now, the final arrangements are falling into place. It's a decent plan we've been looking at, it's with a reputable insurer, and it'll still be free to employees. It's just, you know, cheaper, which is what companies are all about these days, right?

Except that in the past two weeks, two employees have been diagnosed with cancer. Both employees have been with the company for years; there's been much distress over their respective diagnoses, and it's only this week that we've thought to wonder how our new insurance -- we're scheduled to make the switch at the beginning of the new year -- will affect them. Will the new diagnoses be covered? Does the company really want to stress out the cancer patients with another ream of paperwork, possible switchings of doctors and hospitals? I discussed this with the office manager earlier this week, and we brought it to the company owner, and he said that it's our first responsibility to take care of our employees, and that we will stay with the health plan we've got, even if it costs the company more money to do it.

How awesome is that. How awesome is that. It's been a long time since I've worked for a company that put its people before its bottom line, and it sure is nice to work for people whose policies you can support.
