useful meditations on fictional characters

I've been thinking today that it's unfair to spend your entire experience of someone wishing he would just grow the hell up, and then when he finally does grow the hell up, to feel somehow cheated and/or furious because he didn't grow up exactly the way you wanted or expected him to.

It's diabolically hard to resist the urge to be disappointed in people when they aren't necessarily even doing anything wrong except failing to live up to the expectations which you are conveniently unable to communicate to them. I mean, do you find it so? Because clearly I do.

(I think this meditation could conceivably apply to real life as well, lalala. Seriously, though, this is not about real life.)

Oh, I agree. Both for fictional and real characters. I get so unreasonably frustrated sometimes, until I remember I'm probably disappointing or aggravating more than my own mother. :-)

Yeah, I was on the other end of that one just last night. Sucks equally much to be the one who's doing the irrational disappointing -- thank you, universe, for reminding me about that one.

Have you somehow just now finished Book 7? (Am only half-kidding.)

Ahahahah, I think I was the only person in fandom who was okay -- not elated, mind -- with Book 7.

You may well have been.

You mean Harry Potter? ;)

No! :D But this, what I'm feeling now, is pretty much what 99.9% of fandom felt after DH came out.

OMG let me guess. You're reading "Twilight?" ; )

AHAHAHA NO. Supernatural is a little embarrassing, but it's not that embarrassing.

Few things are, I believe.
