I went to early vote on Friday during my lunch hour -- the last day one could vote early, in my state -- and holy shit, the blocks-long line just to get in the door. I turned my car around and went back to work, and all the way back, I was thinking about the undoubtedly similar line I'll have to face on Tuesday; but after a couple of minutes I realized what I was seeing and got excited rather than annoyed at the inconvenience.

See, I've been a voter for twenty years now, and this is the first election I've been a part of that felt to me as though it were working the way a democracy is meant to work. People are all worked up about this election; whether they're voting for their candidate or against the other, they're passionate about doing it, determined that their voices'll be heard on Tuesday, that their votes be counted. I can't wait to see the news reports about the record turnouts. I can't wait to hear the numbers and the exit polls. And no matter who wins (although: O capricious universe, please please please let it be Obama), I hope people can tap into this excitement for the next election, and hit their polling places with just as much fervor in 2012. And that they can keep doing it.

So. Hi! I skipped back 200 entries and only got to October 27, so, er, there are twenty days or so lj days that will have to remain lost to me forever, sorry. I am all drunk on chicken-with-rice soup tonight, and so am happy once, happy twice, obvsly, and I hope you are equally well. How are you, anyway?
