It surely does look nice, though.

If you ever come visit me, as no doubt you are planning to do, I now have a king-sized bed for you to sleep in, but I hope you don't thrash around too much, or want to sit on the foot of the bed to tie your shoes or something. See, I inherited a twin mattress set from my grandmother, and with the twin bed I already had, that makes a king-size bed, but you know, they are still separate twin mattresses, connected only by a mattress pad and a king-sized fitted sheet.

And also, I probably shouldn't tell you this because now you'll never want to visit me ever, but the bed frame is held together by packing tape and big stacks of magazines. It is only temporary! Until I get a proper king-sized bed! But my benighted sunroom: the benightedness is temporary in there, too, and it's been nearly two years now since I moved into my house and it is still benighted, so. I move slowly on these things, is what I'm trying to tell you, so when you visit me (you are still coming to visit, right?), just don't thrash. Or sit on the end of the bed. Are we agreed?

ETA: One-third of the way through, and I'm still in the game! Go me!

Oh, it looks so beautiful.

And actually, the two-twins-tied-together thing is what my parents do, because my dad thrashes around and my mom can't sleep with him doing that.

Having been married-or-living-together for OMG so many years, I can see the appeal of separate bedrooms.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding! I am only half-joking when I say that my ideal marriage involves each of us getting half a duplex.

[identity profile] laurelwood.livejournal.com 2007-11-11 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
It looks gorgeous! So when I come to stay, I should just take a running leap from the doorway and land squarely in the middle? And if that proves too athletic, just how many Cottage Living magazines will go flying, anyway? :D

I think this bed shows great ingenuity. Also, I covet those lamps. And those curtains (are they called sheers? That's what my grandmother always called 'em) are just plain classy.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
NO. JUMPING. I REPEAT. NO. JUMPING. No, I suggest sitting on the edge of the bed, easing your negligible weight onto it in a very gingerly fashion.

No magazines will go flying, I trust! I have duct-taped them into solid, hefty blocks, and then strapped them in turn to the bed frame. Still, though, I recommend the easing.

The lamps are from K-Mart! And the sheers -- which is what we call 'em -- aren't as classy as they look! They are covered with whimsical little spirals in different colors, so they are pretty un-serious, as curtains go. But I like them too!

Oh alas. This means that I cannot come visit you, because exactly 50% of the time I am a bed-thrasher, and the other exactly 50% of the time I curl up in a ball up against the wall. As I am likely to thrash your bed apart, and as your bed does not abut a wall, I would be fundamentally incapable of sleeping.

Unless, of course, you have a comfortable couch. I do very well sleeping on couches.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I do ave a couch. And also, for you, I am perfectly willing to reconvert the bed to its former configuration: a daybed shoved flat against the wall. Or! No! I will just put the sheets on sideways, and you can sleep crossways on it! I'll work on shoring it up, too, so you'll be able to thrash to your heart's content.

[identity profile] xanthophyllippa.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Yes! Sideways sheets! That's the ticket! And if you have a down comforter, and if I come in the chillier part of the year, then I can just wrap myself up in a cocoon and I won't need to thrash at all.

I'll go book my flight right now.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh! No down comforter, but I do have a down blanket, which is more appropriate for this climate. It's twin-sized, so I'm using it as a throw on the end of the bed, but twin-sized is still enough to cocoon in, you know.

Does thrashing include changing sides? Because I'd love to come visit you, but not if I'm going to destroy your property. :-)

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, I think you're probably safe changing sides. I did a little test, rolling around, and really, I think as long as you're not having actual sex with an actual other person, you should be good. If you're planning on having sex, though, all bets are off.

How gorgeous. I feel inadequate to be your friend, now, which you'd understand if you saw my room. :)

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to say -- it's good news for guests, though -- that my guest room is actually much nicer than my room, which is filled with a mishmash of my favorite things and is not nearly so coordinated as the guest room. So my room is probably much more what you're used to.

[identity profile] quigonejinn.livejournal.com 2007-11-11 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my God. That is one beautiful room.

it looks lovely! i cannot wait to come sleep on it and muss it up. :>

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
It is waiting for you to muss it! :O

The comment that might more appropriately be an email.

I never get tired of looking at photos of your house. You could easily get through the whole of nopoblano or whatever it is called just by posting random snaps of your house. Am especially curious about what is going on in the sunroom.

I have been on a housecleaning tear all weekend (you would not believe the 2.5-foot high wall of autumn leaves that are now lining the front of my property, waiting for the city to come vacuum them up-- it is like a fortress of leaves, I have never raked so many in my life) without tackling the most pressing project in the house, which is the fact that pretty much 80 percent of my clothes are lying in piles around my bedroom. On the plus side, my (completely insufficient) kitchen counters are clearer than they've ever been.

I got a new slipcover for my sofa as a caution against simply replacing it for being ugly and old. I should send you a photo.

It is always good to hear from you, on lj or through email.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Last things first: YES PLEASE SEND PHOTO. Your couch is so comfy that I can't imagine your ever wanting to get rid of it. That is what slipcovers are for!

And your city vacuums up leaves?! I am so moving there next. My own leaves are still scattered, and I am still trying for basic triage after returning home -- haven't even gotten as far as a proper cleaning yet -- so you are way, way ahead of me.

Nothing is happening in the sunroom. Yet. But I have plans for it, yes I do. I am thinking of asking for a bunch of Flor tile for Christmas, for starters, though I haven't decided 100% on that. As soon as things start happening, I'll start posting photos!

I would never in a million years be able to tell that your bed is held together with bubblegum! What a lovely room.

[identity profile] tofty.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
bubblegum and post-it notes, yep. And I'm glad you like it! So do I like it as it's turning out -- I keep going in to check and see if it's just as pretty as it was a couple of hours ago. So far, I've been in luck. :D
