A certain pecentage of my friendslist is just sort of gone, and now that I'm back I am missing them; and it seems silly and stubborn not to keep track if I know where to find them. I'm still posting to livejournal, have no immediate plans to post anywhere else, but I did create an insanejournal to make sure I don't miss anything.

If you comment here with your ij name -- and possibly if you don't, if I can manage to find you -- I'll friend you with my tofty account there.

I'm darththalia on IJ as well, but I'm only coping my LJ posts there--LJ is still my main journal. This is all getting way too confusing.

I totally know what you're saying. Mostly 'cause it happened to me. ^^ Also? I'm seakokato at both insanejournal and greatest journal. ^^

How many folks are gone now, anyway? As I'm no longer in HP fandom I only see vague rumblings about people picking up stakes but I never know what's actually going on.

I KNOW. D: I hope things settle soon -- I came back in the middle of the end, and was all HEY JUST WHAT EXACTLY IS HAPPENING AND WHY ARE YOU ALL LEAVING ME DO NOT LEAVE ME.

At least two-thirds of the HP segment of my friendslist is picking up stakes, at least as far as I can tell, at least for now. I have no idea who's coming back again or if the IJ move is permanent (I'm guessing not, based on past migrations and exodi); since this journal doesn't pretend to be much of a fandom journal, and since as we've discussed elsewhere, I am lazy to the bone and don't want to move, I'm going to keep posting here. But I don't want to miss some of the fandom stuff going down elsewhere, either.

Note to my friendslist: MAKE UP YOUR MIND OKAY.

*sighs* Guys? It doesn't matter where the servers are located when it comes to the enforcement of obscenity and pornography laws--it matters what jurisdiction you live in--the First Amendment is not applicable to a private actor and Spanky or Stinky or whatever his name is over at IJ is your best friend only until some vigilante group or the Justice Department or the suits at Warner Brothers start making more trouble for him than a bunch of new paid accounts are worth. (Those being the three "arguments" I've heard in all of this to-do that have been driving me farthest up a wall, not that that's your problem.) Also, I'm cynical enough to give this, what, fifth or sixth mass migration elsewhere since I joined LJ about six months tops, though I've been wrong before.

You're preaching to the choir, of course, but: agreed on the migration issues. And thank you for clarifying the obsenity law! Even I, who am, as I mentioned, the choir, was a little fuzzy on this. Nice to have it laid out nice and succinct, ma'am.

I'm not going to IJ (I don't like its flippant use of the discourse of mental illness, plus the mascot freaks me out). I might start moving/posting fic to GreatestJournal or JournalFen, though; I'm xanthophyllippa at all three alternate sites.

I'm not moving for reals till they actually DO come out with "ToasterStrudelJournal".

All legalese aside, none of this is rocket science--folks are not hearing this stuff about the First Amendment, jurisdictional locale and the fact that we all agreed to a TOS that says "May suspend or ban users for any reason we see fit" because, frankly, it's just not what they want to hear. Which is a childish way to behave at best but, you know, nobody ever said that fandom was a nest of emotional maturity. (And by the way, considering that it now seems almost certain that the source of all the problems is a fannish mole or seven keeping tabs on places like pornish_pixies, do people really, truly believe everything will be magically solved just by going somewhere else? God, that's naive.)

If I actually had a damned thing in the way of tech skills I would trademark that name and get some servers up and running. :-D For reals.

Hi, T. I've been on hiatus myself though for much less justified reasons than you. Before anything else, I'm very sorry about all the personal troubles you've had lately. You must be really sad. *Hugs*.

I haven't really got my head around this lj exodus yet. My inclination is to stay here but set up alternative journals on the other sites so I don't lose touch with all the people I'm fondest of in fandom. I also tend to agree with Violetisblue that the basic problem isn't limited to lj but is bound to follow us to any site. Remember how we all quit ff.net in dismay and outrage? Ever since then I've thought it might happen on lj one day, and tried not to get too attached to what is in the end just a website.

Welcome back. *hugs*

I've got you friended over at IJ (which is my main journal now), but I'm going to keep reading your journal over here at LJ (I've got you in my LJ reading filter). I'm cross-posting everything but the fiction over here at LJ, and I'll post links to the fiction so that people can get to it easily.

It started out as being really confusing, but it seems to be settling down pretty quickly now. Everyone is interconnecting really efficiently. I haven't lost any of my flist friends, which is the important thing to me.

I guess I should start working on journals at the other sites, but I don't want to! For now, I feel that one concession is enough! *defiant* *but not to you, oops!*

Yep, I agree with everything you say -- but I did grow very fond of lj, I admit. I've tried many different blogging sites, and this is by far my favorite. The servers are decent, the commenting system is highly sophisticated, they're no better or worse than any other business who sacrificed some of its ideals to the bottom line. I'd only move if absolutely everyone else did first -- but I'd resent moving, darn it.

Hello! I am struggling a bit, but mostly I'm okay. *hugs back*

I still haven't reached that bit where it all stops being confusing. Who's where, who's promising to leave without actually leaving, who left already without mentioning it, who's crossposting and who's not, who's not posting anywhere anyway and it's all just for form's sake. I keep feeling that I'm missing something, but I will look forward to this how-you-say clarity you mention.

It would be inconvenient to move but I'm trying to be philosophical about it in case it comes to that. You know in my HP series, the characters are 17 at the beginning - that's legal in the UK but does that count in the US? OK, the stories are only linked from not posted on lj, but if they were on here would I be breaking lj's policy now? I'm confused! At least the ff.net ban was clear.

I'm not sure yet if I'm around on Sunday. If I am shall I turn YM on? I hope you're feeling better, sweetie. (PS got to go to work soon so I might have to postpone replying to your DH comment.)

Hi T. My apologies - I was so hideously hungover on Sunday I couldn't face turning on the computer let alone typing. And the last few days I've had the decorators in, monoplising the room I use the internet from, which is why the belated explanation :/ <3.
