She's so sweet with her get-back stare
So I seem to've accidentally acquired a dog, the along-a-busy-street kind, the I-can't leave-her-there-to-get-hit-by-a-car kind, the christ-she's-being-divebombed-by-a-six-ounce-bird kind. I mean, people, I couldn't just leave her to wander along one of the busiest streets in town, right? So I brought her back to the office on Friday, a block away from the Busy Street, and gave her some water and made myself that bargain you sometimes make, you know, okay, if she's still here by the end of the day...and not only was still there by the end of the day, but she'd sort of planted herself against the front door so that anyone going in or coming out had to step over her, and so I herded her into the car and brought her home, bought a super-cheap leash and collar on the way.
Well, she's adorable and sweet and housetrained and also, it turns out, in heat, and Leory, until fairly recently All Man, is totally enamored of her, keeps wanting to give her flowers and trying to stand outside her window with his boom box blasting Peter Gabriel, and as if my hands weren't full enough trying to keep an eye on them both, it further turns out that she's something of a committed Chewer, and managed to get through my monitor cable before I could substitute a proper chew toy for it, and the last twenty-four hours has been so exhausting and unplanned and disconcerting that I haven't so much as had a chance to take the pictures for the posters I'm going to have to make to post in my office neighborhood and on Craigslist, and I'd do it now except that I'm trapped on the bed with them; they're quietly napping for the first time all day, and I don't want to be the one to wake them and make it start all over. So even though I have posters to make and I kind of have to pee, I'm just gonna sit here until they decide they've slept long enough.
I'm going to get her home if I can, but in the meantime, I've named her Gilly. If she were awake, I'm sure she'd say hi.
